Wand of cloudkill.

Post by gozpel »

I played through the game without ever using this wand of cloudkill, but I read somewhere about powerful it is (out of balance I would say :) )

So the second time I played the game, I thought I give it a try. It only had one or very few charges, )I noticed when I equipped it) so I sold it to a merchant for a few coins, then I stole it back, no way I would pay 18000 gold for it, and it had 50 charges!! A weapon made by the gods, indeed...and it made life so easy for me.

But when it comes to gameplay, it sorta spoilt it to have a weapon that wipes out the enemy with none or little effort, so what are your thoughts about this?

I didn't feel quite alright using it, and somehow it felt like cheating...

I can't disagree with you. The wands, IMO, wreck the balance of the game. Of course, nobody says you have to use 'em, and one legitimate course of action would be to ditch the wands while playing at hard level.

But if you want to be extremely cheesy, some players imbibe a few potions of master thievery, then sell the wands and steal 'em back.

Hey, wands are nothing compared to finding a magical cloak on a fish-head that reflects all spells back- I mean, how did that fish-priestess chick get that anyway?

While no body can disagree about the amount of usefullness the wands have. The ability to steal back the wands with them being fully recharged would have to be a sort of bug.
I remember having the same problem with my fire wand which had an almost unlimited amount of charges, this kinda made the game boring. I now rely upon it as my sort of back-up weapon, in case something goes wrong.
Hopefully this bug will be fixed by the time ToB comes out.

While on the subject of ToB and wands, does anyone know wether newer, more powerful wands will be found in ToB?

Also, the Wand Of Cloudkill had a rather severly unbalancing bug with it that caused it to bypass Magic Resistance completely, as if it weren't powerful enough. Fix available below...

@Kevin, I don't suppose there's anyway you could create a patch that simply eliminates wands from the game?
