Underdark and the drow
I just bought the book about my favorite setting, the Underdark.
Unfortunately, I can't read it yet since it's a present.. for myself. I get to open it in a week or so.
I'm thinking about also bying the Fearun setting book since they belong together but I'm not sure if I should.
Anybody read it yet or have an opinion about the drow in general tehy want to share?

I have heard of the underdark and will probably sound stupid considering my character is a drow, but the underdark is? and how do you get to it? I have tried to imply it into one of my campaigns, but it did not work because I knew nothing about it. What is the book called and how much does it cost? Where can I get it?
I live in the shadows, I hide in the night. See my face and know your death.
If you want to know something about the Underdark and Drow culture in general, I can recommend the fantasy novels called Dark Elf Trilogy and The Icewind Dale series by R.A. Salvatore. IIRC they're pretty cheap, and gives a good insight in the story of the drow... plus, they're exciting!

But for info on the Underdark world, you should buy the Underdark book.
It contains maps, species and much more. I bought it for €35.
Underdark is a world under the normal world of Fearun, caves and stuff like that. You get there via mines and caves that are deep enough that they reach into the Underdark.

The Underdark has been a pretty difficult setting to play in, ever since it was invented. With that I mean that it takes a lot out of the characters and the DM. In the beginning it was impossible for surface dwellers to venture into the Lower Depths without some sort of radiation protection, and due to the incredibly hostile setting, it was pretty much impossible to head down there for anything but short trips. The standard Random Encounter tables made resting nigh on impossible, and the area was so immense you had to find the right access point in order to reach the destination you wanted without getting murderlized.
Today I'm running a modernized version of Ravenloft, with the Underdark added as a nasty bonus. My players are so on the edge they can't walk by a molehill without getting the heebie-jeebies. The Drow, along with the Ilithid, are by far some of the worst sleazoids in the D&D game. There is nothing worse than a completely psychotic enemy who pretends to be civilized...

I love the Underdark!!! I think it's the best setting for a DM. Rob-hin already told why. And I like Illithids, so that's probably a reason aswell
