Paladin Party

Post by CopperWater »

I am thinking of creating a paladin and what would be a good party for him? I like Minsk too much to say no to letting him in.

Party for Paladins *SPOILERS*

Good question... But I will try to answer. There will be a few spoilers in my answer, though.
My current main character is a paladin, and I'm almost through the game. My party consists of
My paladin (tank)
Coran (archer and supporting tank)
Imoen (thief and supporting archer)
Branwen (cleric)
Dynaheir (mage)
Minsc (rearguard and tank)
Until I got Coran, I had Khalid (Jaheira suffered a terrible accident... Why had she to fight Greywolf in melee without armor? Stupid girl ;) ). I also considered replacing Branwen with Yeslick, but I got to him too late and he was too weak compared to the rest of my party.
As for general options, I suppose you will have a very high reputation and therefore should go for good-aligned characters. Neutrals are possible, but they begin to complain when your reputation goes to 19 or 20. They never leave, but it really gets on your nerves after a while... Unfortunately, there is only one good-aligned cleric in the game, Yeslick, who has two disadvantages: He is a fighter/cleric and you won't get him until near the end of chapter 4... Until then, the other available clerics are
Jaheira (Friendly Arm Inn, comes bundled with Khalid, neutral half-elf fighter/druid)
Branwen (Nashkel Carnival, petrified, neutral human cleric)
Viconia (Peldvale, lowers reputation, neutral evil elf(drow) cleric)
Faldorn (Cloakwood 3, neutral human druid)

As for other characters, Imoen is a good thief (and you need one in this game!), Khalid is a good fighter with a high CON, Kivan is a good archer and average tank (his biggest weakness is his low CON), Ajantis is a fellow paladin but a rather mediocre fighter. (And I don't think you need two paladins in a party.) Concerning mages, if you want Minsc, you must rescue Dynaheir, who is also the only good-aligned mage in the game! (The only other possibility would be a mage as main character or dual-classing Imoen). And I would suggest giving Minsc the Gauntlets of Dexterity, then he can survive on the frontline.
I hope I could be of service

my paladin party consisited of:

Blondie (with the... well, the blondie portrait!), using two-handed swords, staff, bow

Minsc (long sword, axes, hammer)

Kivan (longbow)
Coran (longbow, short swords & daggers)

Jaheira (sling & darts, mainly)
Dynaheir
Imoen (dual-classed to mage)

Khalid got it in one of the early fights... not too much grief, imust add...

I have a pretty good party
Remon-Fighter/Cleric,Dwarf
Kagain-He is my Melee fighter
Coran-Archer
Kivan-Archer
Imoen-Mage,Mini archer
Yeslick-Fighter/Cleric
----------------------------------
Generally Remon is my Tank alongside with Kagain.
Coran and Kivan are both my archers and W/ Fireball arrows=Bye Bye enemies.
Imoen is my dart thrower at the moment because she can't wield a bow at this time,Yeslick is my support fighter and Cleric but really is useless.

I think i might pick up Tiax or Quayle or Vicionia OR Branwen but unsure.

Isn't obvious? She let the nature thing go to her head. :D Now, Khalid is usually the one experiencing "accidents" in my party - the idiot is always trying to impress Jaheira.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Well you have seen Minsc plow through gnolls and ogres with a two handed sword+3 haven't you?

Give him some oil of speed and he gets more attacks in with the deadly sword, also I have never given minsc a shield because I find that the Two handed sword is more his thing.
and scimitar+5! don't you have to kill Drizzt do'urden for that?

Nah, you can pick pocket it. And about that TH+3, I guess that's only in TOSC, or do you mean the cursed +3? :)

Anyway lets face the facts.

+5 Scimitar, "defender"
Damage 1d8+3
Thaco+3
Armor Class bonus 2
Speed factor 2

VS

+3 Two-Handed (durlag's tower, TOSC)
dmg 1d10+3
Thaco+3
Speed factor 7

Eh, which one if better? And you can have a shield with scimitar.

If you have awesome party, sarevok falls with no trouble. I once played with party that had my own pc fighter, kivan, coran, ajantis, branwen and khalid. It was pretty hard to beat some of the fights but Sarevok fell in few secs.

IIRC spider's bane is a +3 two handed sword, it can be found in the cloakwood areas....

Just to clarify, here are the swords to which you are referring:

Two-Handed Sword +2: Spider's Bane (Cloakwood)
Two-Handed Sword +3: The World's Edge (Durlag's Tower)
Two-Handed Sword +3, Cursed Berserking (Captain Brage)

That looks a lot like my party. I've given Kivan the Bow of Archery as well as the +2 Poleaxe so he does double duty as 2nd-line fighter/archer extraordinaire. I just didn't seem to like Coran as much so I dumped him, he was an awesome bowman but useless as a backup fighter and Kivan gave my party more balance. Plus I gave Minsc the boots of speed... and watched him RUN.

IMO Coran makes more damage than Minsc and Imoen together :)
