stuck on durlag's tower

I have played through the game and expansion many times before, but this is the first time I am going to Durlag's Tower before completing the regular game first. I can't get passed the level with the four dwarven rune guardians. I defeated them and have completely cleared the level, but the door to the next level remains locked and nothing I do will open it. Any ideas what the problem might be? I have never run into this issue before.

IIRC there's been threads about this before and if there hasn't you could always check the walkthroughs, they give more detailed answers with pictures than what you get here... but you find the key in the room left from the secret door that lead to the next lvl, in that room there's also a secret door with a statue in it and the key is located in the statue, hope that helps..
