Looking Back And Looking Forward

Post by Nippy »

For me, Christmas marks an end to a year, I know we have New Year, Auld Lang Syne and all, but it still feels like the year has drawn to a close.

Therefore, I put this thread humbly forward and submit, with your additions, this idea.

That we celebrate the good and bad (if you have any!) of 2003, and write down our hopes and aspirations for 2004.

Here's to a Merry Christmas for all, and a great New Year.

The Good of 2003:

1. Working in a great job with great people and a good salary.
2. Adding two new additions to my family, cats Indie and Taz
3. Finishing 'A'-Levels, and finally releasing myself from school.
4. Getting my new PC with a 19" flatscreen monitor. :D

Congratulations to you, Nippy, on your impressive list of 'Good!'

Considering this is getting up past my 715th Yule season, the real spark that stands out from the stretch of years is a matter of the heart. Which I shall not discuss here. ;) :)

Peace.

I just came across a fun article that may fall into the category of looking back and looking forward ...

Cheers, Nippy! :)

I like 2) :D Cats, 2 cats, how wonderful :D

For me, felines are such a delight; ironically, though, I am mildly alergic to them. Nothing horrible, but enough to prevent me jogging or playing ultimate :(

In any case, don't let the kitties lose their playfulness ;)

Ah, the wheel turns once more... What was good about 2003? Another year of me expending as little effort as possible and accomplishing absolutely nothing of import. I am indeed a true gentleman of leisure.

The bad: People trying rouse the great shiftless one (i.e. me) from his slothful reverie.
 :p
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Also on my list...
- seeing some far-flung corners of the world
- making some great new friends... and renewing a few older acquaintances ;)

Reflecting on my choices and actions are one of the things I do alot - sometimes to much also though :D

For me there were little of importence for me in 2003 from external sources, I did develop a lot as a individual, but that is more difficult to actually point out.

But what was Good for me in 2003.

1) Finishing my education as a systemdeveloper/programmer and allmost aceing it.
2) Finishing my education with the highest average of the entier graduating classes.
(Not that I normally care about such things, but in a very competative buisness it is nice to finish that well when you actually *are* good at it.)
3) This may sound marcabe, but the passing away of my grandmother on my mothers side. She had been very ill for a long time, and she passed away short into the year 2003 when she slept in.

Bad things for me in 2003
1) The passing away of my grandmother - although she finaly got peace, it was still a blow to the family, and of couse, especially to my grandfather.
2) "Loosing" a friend as he quit the education where we started because he wanted to rejoin the military. Still have some contact with him, but as such things usually go - we will loose that "bond" we had eventually, especially when we have little possibilty of hanging around - usually happens anyways.
He was my "best" friend at that school and I miss hanging around with him :(
3) Not finding a job yet - of couse I it only about 1 month ago I finsihed my education .... :)

I have hopes for 2004, where I hope I can find my new identity out of school and most likely in a new city, because I most likely have to move to find jobs. (the place I live - Fyen in Denmark - is an IT desert :D )

Sounds like things are going well for you Nippy, glad to hear it.

Well the good things? Erm, few and far between but I'll try my best.

The Good:
- Learned how to play Texas Hold 'em poker which is simply the greatest card game ever
- Met up with lots of different and interesting people
- Made some good friends
- Got a lot better at pool
- Made some important decisions (whether for good or bad, we shall see)

The Bad:
- Left my job in search of work and am now rueing it slightly
- Didn't take hold of opportunities as per usual
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

Quite the loaded question, this. But, in brief: ;)

The good:
* Having ended up in an interesting job with a good group of people, at a decent rate of pay. And I'll be switching from contract to permanent as of January 2 :D
* Feeling as though I have made some valuable professional contributions to my place of work
* Having progressed in the processing of some personal/relationship issues
* Flying to Quebec City with my partner to celebrate Carnival and being together last February...
* Driving down the Pacific Coast as far as Big Sur at the end of the summer
* Buying a home that will be ready next Fall

The bad:
*Still working with a few demons ;)
*Still trying to complete my degree *sigh*

My hopes and aspirations for the coming year?
*Working through the afore-mentioned "bad."
* Maybe finally being able to fly out to meet some of the friends I have made here
* A new, souped up computer :D
