I Love Aerie - Spoiler

Post by davfra »

I`m on chapter 3 and I fancied my chances against the demilich. My kensai is level 11 and I have Kendorm with me.
At first I was getting slaughtered every time. Then I used my protection from magic scrolls. Now the demilich couldn`t hurt me at all. The only trouble was, I couldn`t hurt him either. Carsomyr did nothing, neither did flail of ages, lillacor, daystar or any of the other weapons I have. Then up stepped Aerie with her sling of everard. She was doing 2 points of damage, every time. She`d stop now and again to say `this is much more exciting than the circus!`.
The demilich went from injured, badly injured, injured and then dead.
I can`t imagine not having Aerie in my party. She can whine as much as she wants!
I hope the ring is worth all the trouble, but the 55,000 xp definately was.
Cheers

Oooh the ring is worth it.
Weird that Carsomyr didnt do any damage, it should hurt him.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

yep...holy avenger should have taken him down, fast...

the sling even works on trolls...for some reason, the sling's magic ghost bullets can kill trolls that have been knocked down, and usually requires either acid or fire to finish...not the best sling in the game, you need to go to the under dark, or a certain naughty place for that, (watcher's keep) in terms of damage bonuses, but incredibly useful... :p

I was surprised that Kendorms sword didn`t work. I searched previous posts on this fight and nearly all of them said that carsymor did the trick. Kendorm didn`t do any damage with it and kept going on about `my weapon has no effect`.
Daystar also was no use. I used it on the first litch and it did the trick, (I then ran away and rested) but on the demilich it had no effect whatsoever.
I wonder if these are random effects that change from game to game? I`ve noticed that if I open a safe and miss a trap, on re-loading, the contents of the safe are completely different.
Maybe it`s the same with weapon effects.
Whatever, Aerie`s in love with my character and he`s certainly in love with her. What a woman!

Well thats wierd, unless he has casted absolute immunity or protection from magical weapons. you shouldnt get the "my weapon has no effect" using the carsomyr any time other then that.

Could be a bug, try to ensure you have the newest version.

ITEM SPOILERS BELOW

On a sidenote, i believe Kangaax needs +4 to hit WITHOUT his spell protections. So there arent too many weapons that will damage him.

Improved Mace of Disruption (pool of blood + illitium)
Staff of the Magi (from twisted rune)
Carsomyr (firekragg)
Sling of Everard (Julov... or deidree)
Crom Fayer (all over the place)
Staff of the Rynn (adventurers mart)
Warblade (adventurers mart)
Cutthroat (bohdi)
???Daystar??? (crooked crane lich)

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head (if you dont have ToB installed). and im not sure if daystar works on him. Anyways, pretty weird you got the "no effect", unless you accidently switched to hallowed redeemer (i used to think hallowed redeemer was the holy avenger first time i heard about it)

Oh, the ring of the ram works wonders on him, a lucky hit can take away half his hp (he has crappy total hp anyway)

Carsomyr may not always hit, but it should *always* have an effect on a lich when it does. The "my weapon has no effect" message should never appear. Do you have the latest Bioware patch installed?

What if Kangaxx had cast "Protection from Magical Weapons"?

It's just a thought I had after reading all of the details, nothing more.

kangy is immune to turn undead, and daystar's sunray effect...

i don't believe he is scripted for protection from magic weapons...possibly mantle, but holy avenger should punch thru it...

daystar will NOT hit him...but the mace of disruption +2 will, because it hits like a +5 weapon vs undead...like the flametongue sword in the druid grove (NOT the one in the copper coronet)

looks like a bug...did you install patches???

:p

I do have the patches and I`ve not experienced any of the usual problems you get when patches are not installed. Could you list the patches that I should have so that I can check? I have both SOA and TOB.
I messed up badly on the mace of disruption. When I did the illithium quest, I thought I`d lost the mace of disruption so did the quest the honest way. Shortly afterwards I went after Bhodi and got the mace of disruption. Is there any way to upgrade it now?
I have some pretty fancy weapons in my gang and not one of them worked until I tried the sling.
Cheers

I know Carsomyr will affect him, because I killed everybody's favorite resident lich using it in one run-through. I'm not the creative mathhead that some of our members are, but I'm thorough. ;) Carsomyr is the lich-killer extraordinaire.

Did you add in any sort of mod that might give Kangaxx additional spells, or a different order of spells? I vaguely recall some sort of player mod that makes liches more difficult.

As for the mace, if you feel you've made an honest mistake, you could always try the CLUAConsule cheat of rewarding your party with a nice lump of ilithium.

Hmm..

Even the tactics mods improved liches are still vulnerable to Carsomyr (unless they have ProMW up, which they use A LOT ) - Kangaxx is, IIRC, vulnerable to +4 weapons and up as Galmar said, and while the demi-lich form is highly melee resistant, (80% 90%? I forget, but it's sick) Carsomyr will chew him down, especially if the wielder has improved haste. Was he in lich form or golden skull when you got that message?

You can use the CLUA command UU gave, or just edit in the ilithium (and/or the upgraded weapon) with Shadowkeeper.
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

The first litch fell easily to daystar. The demilich was what gave all the trouble. I had two tanks in protection from magic spells. They weren`t being touched by the litch, but they couldn`t touch him either. I hadn`t used the protection from magic scrolls before. I take it they can still strike whilst in those bubbles? Otherwise, I don`t have a clue as to what the problem was.
I have a bundle of different weapons and none of them worked.
I don`t know what to do about the ilithium. I don`t like cheating to that extent but I`m tempted to make an exception!

just clua in the illithium, its not like the subquest gives any substantial rewards, wasnt there a quest removed involving an extra piece of illithium with a couple of dwarves?...
