Inquisitor with 3 INT - did I make a mistake?

Post by Edric_Bayne »

I just couldn't see a reason to give him any points in INT since he won't be able to cast spells anyways. I just started BG2 and want to make sure I won't regret this later.

My starting stats:
STR: 18/00
DEX: 18
CON: 18
INT: 3
WIS: 16
CHA: 17

You know, he won't be much of a conversation, I believe his communication abilities are comparable to a gorilla. I mean, serious, you've gotta give him more intelligence. At least IMO. If you think of it from a roleplayer's point of view, would YOU like to play as a super-stupid guy? I mean, think about it, Minsc would be a genious compared to you :D So I think you should reconsider it.
Centuries ago in England........It was an era of chivalry and magic. The evil Prince John unleashed an iron fist of tyranny upon the people. They called out for a champion.........one man answered that call. His name, was Robin Hood. Fearless in his quest for justice Robin Hood challenged the power of the high warlords. While protecting the helpless and the poor. Willing to face death for what he believed, along with the beautiful, lady warrior, Jaheira, the mighty Minsc, and the wise Keldorn. Robin Hood forged a legend that lives on today in............

mind flayers will kill you in 1 hit.

or some other super monster that bioware dreams up in ToB that drains INT.

pump a few points from some other stat into it. there's so many gauntlets/girdles that raise str to 20+, dex to 18, con to 18 etc that there's really no point in maxing all those stats to start with. not sure what use WIS is to an inquisitor anyway.

Thanks all. I couldn't take the thought of being that dim, so I rerolled him with 8 INT instead. At least I can say I'm just as smart as Minsc. Of course that's not saying much...

You don't need a high Charisma. There's a Ring of Human Influence which you can acquire very early in the game that will raise your character's personal charm automatically to 18 (along with other effects). And you need a good, high Intelligence to confront those Illithids. Even if you protection from their confusion blasts (in the form of spells or artifacts), the intelligence drain will kill you if your INT drops below 1. And two or three drains can kill a character who starts out with 18.

Fortunately, your characters can recover quickly, but not if a single blast kills 'em.

I didn't have a choice on the charisma. The minimum starting charisma for a paladin is 17.

That is the problem with character generation. How the hell do a guy with intelligence three aquire a wisdom of 16? I can see how someone with Intelligence 18 can have wisdom 3 but not the opposite. Okay back to the topic you should really have atleast 9 in every ability. You will not be able to cast a scroll of magic protection for instance.

You can use potions to raise your INT high enough to use scrolls. And even though your PC has low INT remember that you (the player) have much higher!

@Edric, that's right: forgot about that Charisma requirement of the paladin. Damn. You're stuck that way.

My suggestion would be to personally avoid illithids. Use another character to attack them, or get a mage to invoke invisible stalkers.

I always sacrifice charisma when creating a character because their is a ring early on that gives you an 18 charisma...also there are things that boost your stregnth so I usually keep a high INT. And you already know about the mind flayers....

I hope this isn't off topic, but does the same go for wisdom?? My stats are pretty good, but I only have a wisdom of 4. How does that affect your character (assuming that you're not a cleric)?
