Custom Items / Abilities

Post by Galmar »

Just out of curioisty, who here has made there own custom items / abilities / spells to be used in SoA or ToB. I mean ive made a few minor things that i sometimes use, but nothing really over the top or cheesy.

Im just asking because i was digging through some old threads, and saw a few people have, or have requested some stuff to be made, even incredibly cheesy over the top stuff like -10 Ac armor with 100% mag resistance.

Anyways, if anyones made anything lemme know, cheese or non cheese, could be interesting =).

vondu created a spell that gives you a button to press in the game that has the same power as

wish:I wish that my party has rested and rememorized all their spells...

i've hacked up a lot of druid and cleric spells to turn them into mage spells so a sorceror can cast implosion, or nature's beauty...

i rarely bother with custom items...i can actually do more with shadowkeeper than near infinity... :p

Bah, ive got "Ring of the blonde", changes sex, sets charisma to 18 and intelligence to 3. (non cursed).

My bastard sword +3 +1 cold damage w/ emotion 3x a day.

Upgraded version for tob with +4 +1d6 cold damage w/ emotion 3x a day + 1 cone of cold per day.

Then i got a mace +1 that gives +2 str.

Then ive got my lame club that either casts slay on target 50-100 or slay on self 00-50 (rolling 50 kills both) ... but that dosnt work as well as id like, plus all i do is reload, so im sick of that one.

Hmm what else... iron boots (cursed) str =3.

A ton of crap stuff really.

Aunt Petunia's Fruit Armor

I once made an entire suite of gnomish items of which Aunt Petunia's Fruit Armor was my fav. I believe I played Aunt Petunia as either a female gnome fighter/illusionist or fighter/thief (she was supposed to be a ranger but that would have been to difficult) as my main char once. Here are the stats on her armor:

This is the personal armor of Aunt Petunia and was concocted by the finest of Turmish gnome craftsmen, this mail feels more akin to cloth than to fruit. The artfully arranged pineapple ringlets have been embued with special enchantments that make them even stronger than the finest metal as well as giving them a natural fire resistance and most pleasing aroma. The armor may be worn by thieves with few penalties and by fighter-mages without removing their spellcasting ability.

STATISTICS:

Armor Class: 1
Weight: 8
Requires: 8 Strength
Usable By:
Gnomes and small halflings

SPECIAL ABILITIES:
Bonus +2 Charisma
Bonus 10% Fire Resistance

I don't think it was overly powerful but it did give her nice protection without removing her spellcasting of theiving abilities.

one of these days i have to make a ring or helm of blindness...utterly one of the most powerful items in the game, easily more powerful than holy avenger...

a ring/helm of blindness that blinds the WEARER...makes them blind!!!

yes, such an item would be incredibly powerful...

go right up to hostile enemies, and set spiketraps, and explosive traps right beside red circle enemies...if your npc can't see them, they can't see you... :p :p :p

I have created a few items of my own, most of which were just for convenience. For example, I made Belm a +3 weapon (it also raised DEX +2 and allowed the wielder one extra attack per round) to extend its useful life. I also made the Silver Sword (an Anti-Paladin's weapon) a +5 weapon like Carsomyr. I also tried to make Azuredge work the way it's supposed to before the Baldurdash patch was released. (Great minds think alike.) :)

I have also tried to make my share of cheesy items, but I never bothered to finish them, either because I lacked the necessary skills or because I decided I'd rather play the game straight ("straight" for me, anyway). :) They included:

Imoen's Amulet -- You think Edwin is great just because he wears an heirloom around his neck? Ha! Wait until you see what Imoen created after she snagged a Tear of Bhaal when nobody was looking. (She's very crafty.) :) Imoen's Amulet gives her permanent Improved Alacrity, reduces casting time by 9, doubles the number of spells she can memorize per level, and makes her immune to Time Stop. Kiss my grits, Edwin. :)

Ixil's Prick +4 -- Kind of like a cross between Ixil's Spike and the Pixie Prick. It's a very large returning throwing dart (picture a lawn dart) that does a small amount of damage and pins the victim (causing bleeding damage, which disrupts spellcasting) and stuns the victim on an unsuccessful save. I wanted to create a nice throwing weapon for a Mage. Along the same lines, I also tried to create:

Modified Staff of the Magi -- Instead of having my characters use it as a striking weapon (which doesn't make much sense for a Mage), I tried to make it shoot Melf's Minute Meteors or Magic Missiles, like the weapons in the old game called Heretic.

The Staff of Tim -- Ever see Monty Python and the Holy Grail? How about a staff that acts like a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and a flame thrower? :)

Tin Foil Hat -- Protects against psionic attacks, Charm spells, and ESP. :)

I have also messed around with lesser items just so that the items in the game would make more sense. For example, why would a sword give you, say, protection against fire or better saving throws? A cloak or even a belt that did that would make more sense to me. I tried to make a whole outfit that "made sense": armor that protected against physical attacks, an amulet (a "charm") that offered protection against magic and better saving throws, wands without charges that cast spells one to three times a day, weapons that did lots of damage (nothing fancy), etc. Complementing the package were "standard" items such as Boots of Speed, Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise, etc.

You mean it didn't cause a little bit of acid splash damage when she was hit? :)

Kind of reminds me of Minnie Pearl's hats. :)

I must be slow tonight but very much like Minnie Pearl's hat with the price tag hanging off it. (How many forum browsers here even know who Minnie Pearl was?) Not sure what you mean by acid splash damage (a reference to citric acid from the pineapples perhaps?). This armor was my inspiration for making a whole set of gnomish only items such as the Turnip Peeler, Plootys Cup of Healing, Gerhardts's Shield, the gully dwarf throwing axe, the Rose of Vivien (cast charm once per day), Queasy's Robe (inspired by Qualye and PlaneScape Torment references) and one or two others. Of course Aunt Petunia's Fruit Armor (as all these items) was inspiired by Jan Jacobar Jansen's tales and conversations with NPCs (and I know you as well as I have read them all). It used to be you could download my items from Sabre's website but its been down for a very long time. I think Sabre may have retired fromt the BG2 arena.

aaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiii!!!!!

it burns ussss...nasty hobbittsssss....

:p :p :p

this is actually the reason why i rarely bother with custom items...

all the powers of imoen's amulet, except the double spells per level, i can actually duplicate with shadowkeeper...and ease of use unnerfed divine and arcane spell progression does pretty much double her spells per level...

makes aerie terrifying at high levels..brrrr.... :p :p :p

Fixed Mace of Disruption +2 and Azuredge, and gave Maze the Maze graphics (instead of Imprisonment) because I don't want to wait for the next Baldurdash FixPack. And made Scroll Cases, Potion Cases and Gem Bags bottomless.

Damn.... im so making that... thing is it would be very similar to a rod of fire, the flamethrower part anyway, as for his little rocket... maybe a fireball with a small area effect, or even fireball itself, It would be nice to have it in the game, like cheese yes, but not overly so. If i get bored enough i might make some of these, not forgetting the holy hand grenade.

SPSPMAZE.BAM. It's a bit of a dilemma, though. It'll look crap if played on the target since the target winks out before the animation gets halfway, but if you play it over the location, it won't sync with moving targets very well.

Damnit, you beat me too it.

But are you taking the spectral calibration of the dilitium crystal chamber into account?
