Best Character roll?

Post by Mr Vegas »

hey, just a little question from yours truly, what's the best roll any of you ever got? when making my kensai to dual to a mage later, i got a roll of

STR: 18/95
DEX: 18
CON: 18
INT: 18
WIS: 16
CHA: 3(got human influence for him though, so now 18)

just a little curious to what you all have...

Rolls

Lol, how many tries did THAT take? Even with stat swapping, that's a pretty respectable 91/108. I think my highest straight roll was in the low 80s.

I don't reroll multiple times anymore, if I feel like fudging my characters stats, I just use Shadow keeper (both are cheats, really, one's just quicker).

Last time I did that, it was restoring the stat boosts on characters I'd given tomes to in BG1 when I restarted BG2 on a complete play through (that one I felt was justifiable, and not really a cheat ;) ), but I've also done it when hacking classes on NPCs, as when I made Minsc an Inquisitor/Undead hunter.

Just for giggles, I gave a fighter all 25s once  - that was silly.

lol, it only took me about 3 boring minutes looking at a screen clicking roll, alot better than my paladin cav which took me about an hour *sigh* to get a half-decent roll

Add the six numbers. (ignore the 95) - 108 is 6 X 18.
See, math is your friend (well, it's certainly MINE )

I consider 80 points to be a good roll for a single-class character and 89-90 points to be a very good roll for a multi-class character.

I once rolled a 97 on the third try when I started BG1. My character was a half-elf Cleric/Ranger, so her minimum stats were pretty high. But still, it was a pretty lucky roll. I don't remember exactly how I distributed the points, but it was something like this:

STR 18/78
DEX 18
CON 18
INT 11
WIS 16
CHA 16

After using a few of the Tomes (I gave a couple of them to Imoen), finishing Shadows of Amn, and visiting Watcher's Keep, her stats were something like:

STR 20
DEX 17
CON 20
INT 10
WIS 22
CHA 20

21 is the "sweet spot" and I didn't quite make it there on most of the stats (without using items and spells), but I was very happy with that character. :)

High stats doesn't make that much of a difference though. Basically there are items for every important stat. High wisdom and intelligence bonuses are not implemented either. And the high con regeneration seems slightly flawed.
To have all 25's may be a big boost early on but after a while it wont make that much of a difference.

Don't kid yourself, high stats make a huge difference. It's a design flaw of the D&D family of games (IMAO) Yes, you can boost them with items, but a character with all 18s is significantly more powerful than one with a stat total around 70. The only restriction, really, is that, as Bruce said, Bioware never really implemented all the stat effects...

Good gaming!

To me the rolls you get for hp's when you level up make more of a difference.

That too...

Yeah, it's another feature I don't really like - especially for your melees - a level 9 Fighter can have anywhere from 9 to 90 base HPs (not counting CON effects)

I think the first two rolls are maxrolls or something but yeah it can differ quite a bit. But hey thats also what makes the game fun to play again, every character is different.
First few times I rolled and rolled and realoaded when things went bad. Now I roll just once and only reload if I die. Pretty cool!

My current character is an Elven female Fighter-Mage, with:

Str - 16 (now 19 with a fancy belt)
Dex - 19
Con - 10
Int - 18
Wis - 9 (gave it up to that demon thing)
Cha - 20 (well, she gets half the party after her, so I figured she'd better be pretty, lol)

That's a total of 91 originally, and currently 95.

I haven't been to Watcher's Keep yet, though.

I once had a Paladin who had about 100, but being nice all the time got annoying.

And what's the deal with the number that appears sometimes behind the strength-number? How do I improve that number?

F/T/M roll

I recently started a female half-elf F/M/T character. On the first roll I got enough points to end up with 18/00 STR, 18 DEX, 18 CON, 18 INT, 3 WIS, and 7 CHA. That's 82 total points. I may have been able to do better but I wasn't going to pass up the 18/00 STR. It orignially came up as 17 STR but upon rearranging the points discovered my bit of extra luck. Anyway that should make a pretty awesome F/M/T char. The 3 WIS may be a problem if I get high enough in Mage to use limited wish spells but I'll worry about that if i ever achieve that level. The CHA is 18 with the ring of Human Influence but even if I have to switch it out for better rings later on Anomen still has a respectible CHA score.

That's exceptional strength (applicable only to melee types) - and can range from 1 to 00 (100) - allows for even MORE carrying capacity, plus to-hit and damage bonuses.

You can improve it with the gauntlets of ogre power and some priest spells.

Some items & spells can raise your strength above 18, where the exceptional number will no longer apply
