Gameplay Error

Post by Forrael »

Hey all i've recently started playing the game, must say I love it, however I keep getting an error in certain areas "Dantooine city, The Space Station, and the Sand People Enclave to name a few) I'll try to explain the error as best as I can below,

When i'm walking along using keyboard or mouse it will start to move eradically, I will push a direction and the selected person will not move but is legs will be in a move-like position (ie his knee is up) or it will not move for a bit, then start moving all over, even directions I am not pushing.

Anyone have an insight into this problem?

Forgot to mention, it is the PC version 1.01

For one, it sounds like you have KOTOR set with a graphics level that is too high for your machine. Try lowering your settings.

I'm running a P4 2.6 with a Radeon 9200SE 1024MB SDRam, playing on lowest texture pack, with grass and shadows off, and anthawhatever it is at 2X.

Turn off antialiasing and check vsync.

What's your graphics card's on-board memory? 64MB? 128MB?

128MB DDR is it's on board, and I have Vsync on, i've tried turning it off to no avail. I've also tried turning off antialiasing, and that did not affected it either. The errors that occure occure in certain areas, and will occure 98% of the time in those certain areas, is it possible my copy of the game is glitched?

Wow. I hate to say it, but I'd argue that your current installation is beyond redemption.

Before we go there, have you updated your drivers? I know that I'm probably beating a dead horse now, but that's the last gasp. Other than that, personally I'm going to declare a T.O.D. of 03:45 GMT. Barring anyone else providing an epiphany, I'd suggest wiping the game out and reinstalling it from scratch.

Lol, using updated drivers, also have re-installed the game. This is one of the best games i've ever had the pleasure of playing, really gets to me it wants to bung up lol.

I've had the exact same problem, but at different locations... for me, it's the Taris main streets, Manaan large courtyards (overlooking the water) and Tatooine's main streets.

I've tried cutting the graphics down to minimal but it still happens. The fastest "solution" I've found is to switch to one of the other characters in your party. Sometimes that character will be able to move (at least for a little bit) and your OTHER character will free up (eg. Finally put his Heisman pose down :P )

Even that doesn't work ALL the time, though. But the fact that I -can- get the game to un-freeze by switching characters in the same area suggests that it's not purely a graphics glitch. I'd think, anyway. /shrug

What is you soundcard and -drivers? I had problems with EAX at Jedi Academy with my music and cutscene-sound, so I re-installed my sounddrivers several times. At first, this didn't work, but then I used the auto-install from windows and volia it worked. But then I had performance problems. But when I played a bit it was real laggy. When I installed my soundmanaging-program from CD the old soundproblem was there again.

So I deleted all drivers, directories and registries and installed the drivers from CD. At this point I had to choose between WMD and VXD-drivers. When I installed the VXD-drivers I had the old sound problem. So I tried the WMD-drivers (WHQL-certificated) and I had sound but miserable performance. At last I decided to install the VXD-drivers again and turn off music.

Why I write this roman: Try to install VXD-drivers, even if they aren't WHQL-certificated this might improve perfomance. (I didn't start Kotor, however, when I saw the perfomance-problems in JA) I don't have any soundproblems in KOTOR with my VXD-drivers. But I plays fluently with a P4 1,7 GHz and a Nvidia GForce 4600 at 1024x768 with 32 bit and all details (inkl. shadowes) enabled.
