Ok, ive completed the game twice now having great fun along the way but never reaching level 20 or getting level 9 spells.
So for a challange ive decided to play it with three characters, who should i take?
at the moment i have,
Paladin of Mystra level one, Sorceror level X
Ranger level one, Bard level x
Barabarian level x
I feel i will miss out on the all important healing spells, any ideas?
Basically i want 2 or 3 really hard characters rather than 6 semi powerful ones

You don't realy miss out on healing spells.
With 3 party members you would have tons of potions, and a bard can cast some healing spells. So can your paladin.
Why take on level paladin and the rest sorcerer? (just curious, cause your bard can make a good party leader (but so can a plain sorcerer)
have you tried HoF mode? then you get more exp. (only start this with a high level party)
Good luck with your party!
[EDIT]
Personally if i would play 3 characters i would go for a:
- Sorcerer
- Melee Fighter (/ Healer)
- Thief / Backup Melee Fighter

I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

I just have a thing baout bards, the idea of taking a prancing singer of songs over a thug intrigues me.
How about taking the barbarian level one then going cleric with him, that way he gets rage and speed increase.
The sorceror/paladin is simply so the sorceror dont die as quickly if he gets attacked

The sorc/pala build is also great for the divine grace bonus. Getting a natural +6 to every saving throw rocks...it was the reason I had this build in.
@FC
If you want to cross with a barbarian you should think about a druid for shapeshifting rage. Maybe even with a half-orc as he gets no WIS penalty and has extra strength.
Then maybe replace the pure barbarian or at least add a few fighter levels for weapon specialization.
Then we have:
A diplomat with two orc pets (do not feed, keep on short line ;-) ).
Maybe I shall try this party on my visit in the Dales...

My current party is a pretty vanilla 4 person party and I'm having loads of fun with plenty of XP to go around.
Human fighter
Aasimar Cleric
Wild elf Sorceror
Tiefling Ranger/rogue
This is normal mode and they are wiping everything out and gaining good levels. I should have 9th level spells by Kuldahar I'm thinking. I find that if you streamline your party, keep only select items that go with your character and sell everything off (you have to sacrifice ammo, weapons and potions that you would probably never use anyway) it makes the game much less cluttered and more enjoyable. I like having a sorceror too so you don't have to spend time picking out spells everytime before you rest and you can use any scroll you find with reckless abandon.
Actually, now that I think about it, I should have 9th level spells before Kuldahar, maybe somewhere in the underdark.

I would suggest multi-ing your Sorcerer to Paladin of mystra at level 22 or so, you don't really need the saving throws at the start of the game, and it just slows you down by 1 level to get your higher level spells(2 levels if the sorcerer is an assimar).
Either way, I think it's a decent party. Best thing is to have fun with it.
