Depends if u ask CC or ranged.. Kagain can take massive damages and with dex gloves he rox but Kivan kicks ass with bow!
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

Minsc has good enough stats and his strength (18/59 IIRC) is very high. In BG1 he's definitely one of the tougher npc's. His rage ability can be very useful if you use it with caution (in close quartres he can just as easily turn on you).
In BG2 his strength isn't that much of an asset anymore since there are so many ways to boost strength.
