Tips for n00bie level 3 warrior
Tips for n00bie level 3 warrior
As a friend couldn't stop talking about this game, I also started playing it. I really like it so far. Since picking a plain fighter in many rpgs is a safe choice, I also did this in Morrowind and made a Redguard warrior. Before I start the quest in Balmora, I wanted to get some experience and equipment. After robbing some towns and castles, I killed an orc in some purple ruin along the coast near a small shack village and got some nice armour for a level 1 warrior. As the other orc dressed in yellow standing on a stairway was a bit too much for me I ventured further down the coast into the inlands north west of the Seyda Nean and below Balmora. I thought because this was the beginning of the game I could enter some caves and get some experience and loot. But to my big surprise most caves seem to be inhabited by very tough monsters or gangs of thugs who are quite hard to beat when they jump on you together. Though I succeeded to clear some caves and reached level 3 doing so, I experience that all the caves I discover now have the most difficult (for me) in them!! I have to sleep 9-12 hours after I kicked a single monster's but. Added to that, that most caves are so dark. When I played the game during the evening in the dark and while walking in an extremely dark cave, I suddenly jumped out of my seat This big glowing monster with fire hands stormed at me Though I managed to kill him, I ran outside immediately without looking back.
Though this was a cool experience, I like some caves in which a level 3 warrior with the stupid spark sword (60 long blade) and some orc armour can go. Can you help me to give me some directions where I should go to get some experience? Thanks for your help

Do you have any ideas how many locations there are in this game? Good luck for somebody remembering that particular one.
I think looking in the construction set would be the easiest way to get an idea.
(Why do you want to kill him anyway? Do you have to? If not, go do something else. )

I think you are at Ashalmimikala Shrine. These old daedric shrines can be some of the tougher places to explore in the game and are way to difficult for a level 3 warrior. Normally each shrine is dedicated to one of the ancient daedra gods. Besides the actual lesser daedra wandering about outside the shrines (sounds like you already met a fire atronach) there are often "humanoid" worshippers of the daedra gods like the orcs you've encountered. That's why they are mingling with the lesser daedra. My experience has been that the human worshippers outside the shrine won't attack you on sight but those inside the shrine will.
My advice would be to not be in such a hurry to start picking fights with well armored warriors. Besides, you can't be sure you won't have a quest later on that may envolve some of these characters. At level 3 I would be concentrating on developing my survival skills, getting my stats up, learning restoration spells, etc. You will learn that all humanoid races in the game essentially are equal in terms of strength and other attributes with only minor racial perks. So don't overestimate an Orc or underestimate a Bosmer as they can be equally strong. Besides I happen to like the orcs in the game. Most of them are sweethearts especially if you are a warrior. They are not an evil race nor are they inherently bad. Many orcs also serve in the Imperial Legions. You can get away with killing these particular orcs without taunting to attack you because they are daedra worshippers which is cosidered outside the law (Morrowindians are only legally allowed to worship the Imperial Cult gods or the Temple gods). Try killing an innocent orc in a town somewhere and you will have a big fat bounty on your head for murder. Also be aware that while most of the people inhabiting caves are smugglers others just may be hostages or slave prisoners.
Try searching this forum for old posts about stategies for developing skills and leveling up. There are other skills to develop than just swordsmanship.

Stay around the towns, most big monsters aren't around there. Level up that way, if a monster you can't fight attacks you, just run into the town since the guards will attack it and kill it for you.

this might just be me, but when i first started i decided what weapon i wanted to be kick ass in and i only used that kind of weapon. IMO usuing one type of weapon at a time goes faster than switching between them all. Pick a weapon and stick with it until you get it maxed, then move onto another.

As far as I remember, there's some trouble with quests, where the fighter's and thieves' guild interest are contrary to each other. You can join both though, you might just have some trouble with advancement. I didn't try to do both guild advancements, just did thieve's guild, so I don't really know. Anyway, it depends if your character is any good in thieving skills or rather fighter oriented, I'd say, chose the guild that fits the character best.

Possible Spoilers
Not always true. One of the fighters guild quests in Balmora requires you to get an object from someone in the thieves guild. Depending on how you play that you may get barred from the thieves guild. If you join the fighters guild you would be wise to visit Ald Ruhn's fighters guild and talk to Percius Mercius. He will advise you on how to play the various fighters guild quests. Some of their quests are morally questionable. Follow his advice and you will be okay. The other way to avoid the fighters/thieves guild delimma is to join both guilds at the same time. Then just don't do anything that would break the rules of either guild. It is possible to completely skip questionable quests and still progress. Just seek out the other guild branches and do their quests instead until you've advanced far enough to get new orders allowing you to bypass the bad quests. Later, when your skills are higher, you may find a way to finish those quests in a way that doesn't get you kicked out.

yeah dont go killing everything in you path. AND SEARCH THE BODIES OF THOSE PPL YOU DID KILL!
i found that one out that hard way and now i cant complete the game [/QUOTE]
There are a couple alternate paths to completing the game. Even if you get the message that "You've broken the thread of the main quest and cannot now complete the game" (or words to that effect) don't believe it. You may be able to use the console to get a dead NPC back in the game. Or you may find one of the alternate paths to the finish. Start a new thread with the info on who you killed and someone will probably be able to advise you on how to finish the game. I seldom follow the "normal" main quest progression to the finale with Dagoth Ur.

I heard that when you join the fighter's guild, you can't join the thief guild.... Is that true?

You get knocked down if the opponent has got a lot of strength behind his blow. The same is true for your opponents once you're strong enough. I guess you're up against some tough guys again? Or are you getting knocked down because your fatigue is at 0?
