WTF I replied 2 times and it says im not logged in!!!!!! I am!!!!!! Ill try again.

I liked the archer for SOA, but not TOB. I dropped him after Watchers was done. He had descent damage and awesome THACO, but when u need a +4 weapon to wack a boss, then he sucks. If u dont mind casting spells to remove protections then maybe try him. i had to cast 2 or more times sometimes, depending on the spell. His low AC and the fact that he can only spend 1 point in melee weapons, makes him just too weak IMO for the big battles. He did have 46% of party kills, but his toughest killed was like a beholder.

If u do make one id go with elf for the 19 DEX and +1 to longswords and bows. Also watch the party formation. if hes getting wacked by some guy in plate armour with a +2 sword, then he goes down quick, so put him in the middle. or u have to move him away, thus wasting time (and the attacker will probably follow anyways, so then its a running game).

U cant dual/muti the guy either (at least I couldnt, when i first created him as a human), which is a big negative in my book, since 20 extra levels of archer doesnt do much for me vs 20 levels of another class.

Try him out though u might like it, especailly if u are into breaching/piercing with your mages. If u do; use the Fire/Acid/Ice/Piercing arrows for more damge, use the +2 arrows for the thief. He gets 4 attacks/round and does 15-20 damge with arrows for me.

An archer doesn't have to be cornered. Use the wonderful smite ability to push enemies away. Taylor made for the archer really.
Also with a big sword and greater whirlwind you do fine in melee.
I am trying to solo one right now, did fine in SoA thanks to stealth. ToB like you say will be tougher but I think I can manage.

Not being able to damage powerful magical creatures is a big drawback to playing an archer, unfortunately. My very first character in SoA was an archer, and I found my only saving grace was the Gesen Bow. It hits as a +4 weapon, which means you can take down most of tough bad guys (but not all). The elemental damage is also really nice against mages with stoneskin.

My solo archer is finding ToB not hard at all. ToB is mainly melee orientated, basically there is not much that GW cant handle. The finale however is probably too tough for non spellcasters. Solo that is.
Yeah short bow of Gesen is awesome.

But an archer doesn't have to rely on bows alone. He can melee quite well. You could equip him with Crom Faeyr, put one slot for warhammer and two for single weapon, use greater whirlwind and he can take out most enemies. And you can also use priestscrolls for buffing.

Well i finished ToB now and I must say that the archer was the easiest fighterclass solo I have attempted. I dont agree with bosses being a problem. The problem is when many lesser foes gather up on you. Bosses fall quickly to short bow of Gesen of Firetooth crossbow.

Firetooth is the best weapon for the archer...
APR bonus of the bow is useless when you get whirlwind attack...
that's 10 APr with a +5 weapon... and there are no +5 bows...

if you can hit it.. it's dead already
