Help on Entering Balbur's Gate Map

Post by SamRose »

I have completed all tasks in the mines - flooding, releasing prisoners and killing Davaeorn (which took some time and several reloads). After moving off this Map I still do not have access to Baldur's Gate.

Any thoughts or pearls of wisdom?

Thanks in advance!

You mean you can't cross the bridge? Did you go thru the ankheg infested farms north of the Friendly Arms? You probably have to do that first and then go from the ankheg area to the bridge area. If that's not it then its some kind of a bug.

Thanks.

I missed opening the Ankheg map, as I followed the road which leads NE of the Friendly Inn map. If you go off the FI map on the N or NW corner then the Ankheg map appears.

No problems now. :D

I had same problems. That Ankheg map is very interesting.Especially Ankheg hole.I was wondering how people could survive here, when there are Ankhegs or Hobgoblins on every corner :)

They have a Ranger-Protector named Gerde who manages the local ankheg population and presumably protects people from them (except for the people who are foolish enough to climb down into a big nest). :)

i recommend just following the path and avoiding them until most of your party is lvl 4 plus. Then you just go full strength (concentrating on one at a time). Command rarely fails so use that when there are more than one. MAgic missile/Chromatic orb are also quite good.
Always try to keep in close combat because their range attack is worse than the melee.

Horror also works on them, but its slightly cheesy as ankegs cant in fact move, so you can horror a group of them and they wont attack but wont (cant) run away either.

I used a theif and used hide in shadows, then I went in the nest, collected the items as well as the body and left, good exp.

You have to be careful with that. Opening the treasure dispells you Hide in Shadows and there is an Ankheg right next to it. Sometimes he misses, but if he gets one good hit with a spit-wad, your low level character is history. You can try to run and re-hide in the little alcove right next to the treasure (which I suspect was put there for precisely that purpose), but I usually take in a potion of invisibility so I can cover my escape.
