I would like to see if I could get some of this stuff printed. Is there anyway to get maps printed? Or would just get a screen shot and print it? I would like exp. info, scripts, iventory, I think thats about it? Or are there other convertions I would need to run a pen and paper adventure??

Since you'll be DMing I wouldsay get as much info out of NI as you can. Some of the stuff will not be possible to discover without knowlege of scripting, as that is how IWD2 does a lot of things (item placement, mosters, ect.). My best suggestion would be to play through the game once while looking at the stuff in NI as you go through it in the game. This way you will have a better feel for what the scripts are doing, even if you can't script. Some of the things I would change if I was DM and IWD2 game would be:

1.) If you take the monsters BAB strait from the game they will hit your fighters about 80% of the time, you may want to do something to change this as the monsters often come in groups. And a common tactic in IWD2 is to use improved invis, ths gets to the point of cheese however.

2.) IWD2 weapon drops are random. Try and payattention to you players classes/specialties a bit more than the game does. I'm not saying drop +5 weapons of the bat, just make sure they are the right type.

If you need any more info just post back here.

Ok when you open NI you are prompted to open the keyfile to the game. Each IE game has ONE of these key file located in the game folder. So to find the keyfile for say IWD2 you would browse to

c:/program files/black isle/IWD2/

Then you should see the attatched picture in NI. Open the purple highlighted file as shown in the pic (this is the key file). Now you have acess to the game. If is overwelming at first and I still have not mastered the IE engine, but you can find a lot of info there.

As far as BAB goes thats base attack bonus, is the 3E equilvalent to THAC0. Basically the D&D translation of how well a character can hit an enemy.

Hip Hip Hurray, I've made some ground in discovery.
I got the file to open, I don't know what I was doing wrong before, but I would like to ask you another question Virgil,
Is there anyway, or what is the best way to print any of that info that I pull up? What about the MOS area files, I would really like to print those. Also scripts and Though mondane, I would also like to print the 'books' out for campainge background. Is there anything else you could tell me about running a campaigne pen and paper style? Pretty much I just need to know how to print this stuff.
Thanks for all your help

I'll make mine Targos

well i tried to export the mos files, but nothing could open them :( NI does have a print function in it, but I do not know how well it will print. If you are interested in high quality pics taking screen shots of the in game maps may be the best idea. Scripts are also printable via NI, and can be expoted to notepad/word if need be.

If you're going to DM a campaign the best thing you can do is use the game as a guide. Try creating some different situations that will allow your characters to use skills that they don't really get a chance to in the game. As for as roleplaying goes, IWD2 is kinda thin on that. Just try and add some stuff to spice it up and make the characters interactions in the game more indepth than the click and point style that CRPGs (computer RPGs) have. DMing is cool because you can make the game a lot better than anything on a comp IMO. But it will be a bit of work, try and work through the scenarios you want to play in advance. That way it will be more fluid when your group moves through it. Other than that good luck and you can post back if you need any other help.

On more thing, IWD2 does not include some features that make the paladin/ranger/druid classes really cool. Like the fact that a lvl6 paladin gets a war horse. If you plan on playing the campaign IWD2 style (ie only with the IWD2 game rules) you may want to consider balancing these classes out a bit by giving rangers/paladins a wider range of spells to choose from. I would also suggest adding some spells to the druid, they get kinda shafted in IWD2. Of course you none of your players want to play any of these classes you won't have to worry about it. I am working on making these changes to the game right now, so if you want any more info about the specifics just email me. I could also send you a copy of the files to put in your override folder if you wanted to try them out in the game (when I'm done with them).

I really need some help with this, I trying to use Near Infinity from a folder on my desktop and when I double click it sends me to win ace.

I have not used near infinity for about 2 , 3 maybe 4 months. I basicly forgot how. I thought it was easier than that. What am I doing wrong? I just want to get the console to come up.

I don't know about my winace, like it may be expired or something? I did not think I even needed though.

Winaceilliterately,
Patrick, somewhere in Easthaven.

Right-click on NearInfinity.jar, click on Properties, and make sure it is set to open with javaw. If it isn't, click on the change button and set it that way.

Edit: When you download NearInfinity, be sure to save it as type all files.
