Hi Guys & Gals,
Have just finished Icewind Dale and I gotta say I'm pretty unimpressed with the ending. Surely it just doesn't end with you defeating the end of game boss and then cut to the "Load Screen", does it? Not even a "Thank you for saving our humble town and the rest of the World" or a "Here's a trillion gp, go and spend it in the bar".
Can anyone confirm that this is in fact the case or have I picked up a glich?
Cheers
Dog

No glitch, that's how it ends. Not sure it ends abruptly like that if you have HOW expansion installed. Though you should be able to start the expansion with the same party after the game ends by getting back into it. Been awhile since I played HOW after finishing the boss man (usually do it just before that battle and then return).

You did get to see the final cutscene right? Personally, I think IWD had one of the BEST endings to any RPG I've EVER played!!!
I don't want to get into specifics because it might spoil the surprise at the end but honestly wasn't the ending to IWD one of the biggest surprises you've ever had in any RPG?
Or is it that your simply refering to how once the final bosses HP are 0 you are suddenly taken to the final cutscene and then thats it? Did you watch the final cutscene all the way through? I'm really not kidding when I say IWD's ending is probably one of the BEST endings I've ever seen in an RPG.
When you say "cut to the Load Screen" do you mean that you may have hit "enter" and thereby you skipped the ending cutscene? If you missed the ending cutscene then I would see why you would be complaining. If not, then I really don't understand because in my opinion the ending to IWD was incredible. (way better than BG I & II, IWD II, Planescape, etc etc)
Someone back me up on this, was not the ending to IWD incredible? Those of you who have played it through to the end know what I'm referring to here.
I would try backing up your saved game then reinstall icewind dale. Copy your saved game back into the proper directory.
Are you perhaps using an illegal copy of the game? (I only ask because an illegal copy would be cut for space and that would probably mean the cutscene files were not included) Did you see the rest of the cutscenes throughout the game?
I would start by just backing up your saved games to a temporary folder. Completely uninstall IWD and then delete the whole IWD folder. Reinstall the game then copy your backed up saved game files back. Load up your saved game. Kill the boss then see if it loads the cutscene.
Try doing that first and let me know if that worked. (Just be really carefull backing up your saved games folder, just to be safe back the entire /mpsave directory up. You'll see several folders like "000000 quicksave" and "0000001 auto-save" and probably at least one that is something like "000003 Doggy's Adventure" or whatever you called your save file) You need to back that entire folder up so you don't lose your saved games.

Sorry for being a little off topic, but do you really think the IWD ending was better than the PST ending? I thought the whole IWD story wasn't really anything special. The PST ending had me nearly in tears

If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach
