Disc 3? But there are only 2!

Post by Echarin »

I got Baldur's Gate yesterday. When I tried to enter Nashkel (that's the name, right?) the game asked me to insert disc 3. This is really weird because there were only 2 CDs in the package (besides the expansion pack and the manual+patch disc). What's wrong and, more importantly, how can I fix it?

Hi, welcome to the board.

I think you have the DVD version of the game. I dont know how you can fix it, but have you tried downloading the patch? or a full install?
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

The CD version is 5 disks. The DVD version is one disk. ToTSC is considered disk #6 for this reason. If you are playing with ToTSC and have that disk in the drive (its always required to start the game) and then move to a new sector the game will prompt you to put in a specific disk (1 through 5) even if you have the DVD version. Just put the DVD disk in regardless of which disk it asks for (unless you go to Durlag's Tower and asks for disk #6). To prevent this hassle, I normally switch from the ToTSC disk (#6) to the DVD disk as soon as the game loads. Then I can seemlessly move to other map areas without the game prompting me for a new disk.

@Echarin: Do you remember which disk you had in the drive when you went to Naskel? Do you have ToTSC installed? This might be your problem, in which case, no problem. Just put in the DVD disk if it ever prompts you for disk 1 though 5.

It is not the DVD version. It's the rerelease of BG+TotSC, with 2 discs for BG and 1 for the expansion. BG was compressed to fit onto two discs. I've found out now that the version of the game I've got is faulty and doesn't work. Apparently they've released this set again and fixed the problems, but the old one (the one I've got) is still on storeshelves.

Glad you got it figured out. Hopefully you'll be able to exchange it.
