alignment
I'm about to leave the prison in TOB and my "USUALLY" chaotic good Mage is now Neutral Evil!!!! Went back on the saves as far as I could and same thing! Rep has been 17 or above for whole game, its 20 right now! Do I have to go back to a SOA save and start over? Or is this something that happens reguardless in TOB because your Bhaalspawn? ORrrrr.... did I accidentally kill a peasant with a fireball or something????? But wouldn't that affect the whole party??? Anyway, I probably answered my own question, huh? Any input welcome and THANKS!!! Tor

How recently did the change occur? Could it have happened while you were visiting hell?

Most alignment changes in BG2 occur during the hellish tests. It only takes *one* selection which is seemingly selfish for an alignment shift to occur.

The whole alignment thing is poorly and spottily implemented in BG2. as compared to PS:T, which Bioware acknowledges was the source for some of its ideas. Most decisions you make in BG2 have no impact on alignment; so you can repeatedly kill people, and still remain good, or be evil, and do plenty of good deeds: nothing changes. In PS:T, by contrast, there were many verbal exchanges that were important to the game (not fluff) where your remarks made you more/less on an order-chaotic good-evil scale.
That's not to say the shift really mattered. For that, the Troika games (until the non-roleplaying TOEE came along) were the answer. No fatuous "good" or "evil" alignment labels, just reputations, and the ability to do find and pursue pro-social and anti-social agendas that led through two distinctive series of quests until you arc'ed back into the main quest path.

SPOILER.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Yeah! I went back to my save just before putting the Tears of Bhaal in the wall in Hell and "sure enough" the one that gives me 15 hit pts. turns me neutral evil!!! Oh well, I'm not going back!!! I just created a Paladin for my TOB Party so I got a good "Cosimyr"(?) wielder, is this going to cause me a bunch of grief or will it be a minor annoyance??? I suppose I could take Jaheria back and sell the sword!!! I sure would like to have that sword floating around though!!! Right now I have a totally created party, Elven Mage PC, Halfling thief, Half-Elf fighter/mage, Half Orc Cleric and a Human fighter. Thanks for any insight, Tor
