This is too much...

Post by Mr. Sprinkles »

I'm in the Planar Sphere and my guys are on average about level 12. And yet I have to deal with Iron and Clay Golems. No, I'm not asking for strategies; I know them all. I was just wondering if this is possibly a bug. :o

Whatever your level on entering the sphere you will meet iron, stone and clay golems in the clock room. This is no bug.

I am not sure the ideal character level before entering the Planar Sphere but it is definitely not for the faint hearted. To fight golems you need blunt weapons, as they are magic resistant.

What I found effective was (because of their size) they get trapped in doorways. Get your thief to set traps - they are quite effective - then retreat.

Clay golems can be hurt with blunt weapons but stone and iron golems need +3 weapons or better.

I don't know if this helps....

Took yer advice and used Yoshimo's snares; worked like a charm! :) Hey, I found a way to restore his snares without having to rest; just click the Dual-class option and then cancel.

Melf's Minute Meteors have worked just fine on any kind of golems for me, esp. if those big brutes have been jammed in some narrow place. Do not allow the message "...golem is immune..." to deceive you - it's about MMM fire damage many golems are immune or resistant to. The +5 missile damage still goes through, at least even adamant golems have been killed so for me.

This might be the long way, but I complete other quests to build my characters up before going where I know I will fight golums. Then, I call my gang (Fire elementals) and hit the Iron and Adamantite ones with a lower magic resistance spell ( kept seeing those resistant to magic messages). Then send my tanks in to help my gang. My Monk was very successful (once I built him up some). I'm going through the game again now with Cavalier, but I haven't gone after the Red Dragon yet. That will be golum-time.

Heh, I was going through the same thing today. A nice strategy that worked for me was getting the iron golem stuck in a doorway. Since they're usually in the front of the pack, that blocked the smaller clay and stone golems. I used Melf's Minute Meteors to kill the clay and stone golems behind them. Then I went in with a weapon with a long reach, such as a staff, and beat the living daylights out of the iron golem.

Azuredge can also damage Iron Golems. Probably the easiest way to kill 'em if they get stuck. :D
