Here is a way I easily defeated each elemental boss.
1. I would get close enough to see it, but not engage in dialog.
2. My Sorcerer or Wizard would cast 'Protection from Evil' on my best fighter.
3. One of my magic-users would cast 'Cloudkill' on the boss to start combat and my protected fighter would hustle up to the boss, leaving everyone else behind.
4. The fighter would just be there to distract boss and his buddies so the rest of the party unscathed.
5. The Sorcerer and Wizard would cast as many 'Cloudkill's as they had and then use whatever spells they had.
Results: boss and cronies do NO damage to protected fighter and don't bother to move after anyone else. Wait for a few rounds to pass, (most I had to wait was 5) with 3 or 4 'Cloudkills' on top of boss, one will work and give you an instant kill.
I just hope that your Wizards or Sorcerers have learned 'Protection from Evil' and 'Cloudkill'. That combination let me just float through each of the elemental nodes with no problem. =) Let me know what you think.
Easy Elemental bosses
And this worked for you in the Fire Node? The Balor does -plenty- of damage to my characters protected with Stoneskin -and- Protection from Evil. He typically kills one character every other round. Cloudkill took out the Efreeti, but didn't touch the Balor.
I only have the one mage, and she can't dish out enough Cones of Cold and Magic Missiles to kill the balor in time.

My strategy was to sacrifice scorp..
I sent him in..he took 160 damage in 1 round.. and spent time summoning glab and vrock..
Strangely after the Balor took down scorp and my ranger.. he stopped using melee attacks and was trying spells..(more or less useless)
and the glab and my few spells I had left seem to take him down..eventually.

I finally (8th or 9th try) managed to take down the Balor. The key to my success was a realization that made me say "Duh!" and slap my forehead.
The character wielding Scather adjusted his Power Attack to +10. He can't miss, so why not? That's 10 additional hit points per hit, and with Haste, this guy was hitting three times per round. Combine that with five magic missiles (one caster) every round and down he went.
The fighter in question had up Stoneskin, Haste, Bull's Strength and Protection from Evil.
By the way, I stopped trying the Cloudkill thing. It killed my guys faster than the bad guys, and once Scather's wielder was dead, the fight was quickly over. Badly.
