Help->Reinstall after format
Before I reformatted I saved all the files that are left over after you uninstall the game. Now that I've reinstalled the game I've copied the old files back into my BG directory but now it won't let me play my saved games. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.
What's the problem?
Can't you access the games? Does the game crash when you load a savegame? Or is ti something else?
If your game was patched before, you probably should apply all the patches to the new one to get it to work, also make sure all the save files are in the right directory.

"Everybody wants to see justice done, to somebody else."
A couple of things could be causing problems:
1) You may have installed a patch either this time or the previous time and save games conflicting with other version.
2) You may have had other files installed last time, such as bonus shop keepers etc and as a result could be causing a conflict.
I'm not the resident technical guide here, and I'm sure others will be able to help you far better than what I can suggest, but the main thing here is to make sure your new version that you just installed has the same things applied to it as your old version that you uninstalled.
Failing that, you can go to the offical Baldur's Gate II website message boards and check the technical assistance there. If anyone knows the URL (I've forgotten) then feel free to post it here...

Cartoon Law III
Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

If I remember correctly, when you install BG for the very first time it does not create a save file until you save a game for the first time. I am sure this was what happened to me (long time ago now...)
Anyhow, you need to create a folder in your BGII directory called save and copy your saved games into it....
