Morrowind Issues

Post by FRAGZILLA »

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this game. Had I know about it sooner it would have been the 1st game I bought instead of the 10th. Despite the epic calibre of the game there are issues. I started with the standard, platinum hits, XBOX edition then upgraded to the Game of the Year Edition. In this version they includded the two expansion packs, Bloodmoon and Tribunal plus added health meter for baddies during combat -- a nice and much needed addition. A few things that should have been addressed...

1) General game stability... Mine crashes about once every 3-4 hours.
2) Excessive disk access... seems to go to the CD alot more that the old version.
3) Lag during complex situations... Just when I start to fight the game usually can't handle it and has to pause momentarity to 'think'
4) Characters tend to stand 'right in the F'ing way' in the center of halls and doorways, making it difficult and sometimes impossible to get around them. This is very annoying.
5) Even if you're wearing full battledress armor with a helmet that obscures your face, people and even baddies still know who you are!
6) Organization of items... when you have 20 scrolls, 30 spells, and dozens of potions, magic armor weapons, ingredients, picks it can be very tedious and time consuming to continually have to scroll through the massive list. There should be separate menus for different categories of items (ie: ingredients, scrolls, potions, etc...) Also, when you can equip a scroll from the main equip screen and if you equip a non-constant effect item you still have to select it in the scrollable list of spells, rings, etc... Kinda redundant. They should take a look at KOTOR or D&D Heros, Their menus are simple and effecient.
7) Since magic and thievery are jsut as important as fighting there should be popup menus to switch between a potion, scroll, spell, weapon etc... It would be alot quicker.

Am I out of line? Are their work arounds? Like I said, I'm not dissing as this is my new favorite game but it could be elevated from great to epic with a few edits.

ok wow. Thats a lot of issues.

1)Game stability. your going to have that. Its the Xbox, and although it was advertised as practicly being a comp. its not. Playing a game as monumental as morrowind, you're going to have the occasionaly crash. So save often, and enjoy what you can get.

2)Excessive Disk access. Again, Xbox isnt a true computer. As you arent installing the game files to the Xbox, it has to refer back to the disk for the appropriate info from time to time.

3)Lag during complicated times. Refer to number 2.

4)Character. I know, I know. I have the same frickin problem. But hey, AI isnt perfect in any game. SOmething you just kinda got to deal with. Sometimes the person is standing there cuz they notcied you or you talked to them and they just need time to get going on their usual patrol.

5)Helmets. The game designers really didnt have a choice in that. How much would it suck having to take off your helmet every time you wanted to talk to someone you knew?

6)Organiztion of items. Again, on an Xbox you;re awfully limited in things you can do. The menu is just fine the way it is and you just have to deal with it. I think if they broke it down anymore, you'd still have to do more scrolling then nessesary trying to find the appropriate topic as there are soo many different item sin morrowind.

7)Popup screens. There are....on the computer. Xbox cant do that wothpout assigning a button to it. and, obviously, the Xbox controler has significantly less buttons then a keyboard.

So no, you;re not out of line. These are completely lagit complaints, but there isnt a whole lot you can do about it and the game is still fricken awsome so....forgewt about it and enjoy the Morrowind experiance. :D
If at first you don't succeed, reload and try again.

Issues

Yes, Morrowind, with the exception of maybe Halo, is the best game I've played so far on the box. The AI in Halo is superb. Enemies work together, hide, ambush and the high level characters are very hard to kill especially at Heroic Level. And on Legendary setting, the baddies do not know the meaning of defeat and laugh in alien tongues at my efforts to defeat them.

But back to Morrowind. Yes the game is so amazing that most any glitch is tollerable. Just got corpus. Need to venture to Red Mountain but I can't wait to venture to Solstien. (is that right?)
