Multi-class HLAs

Post by nephtu »

Ok, per the ToB manual, single class characters get their first HLAs on the first level up above 2.95 Million EXP.

Dual classes get theirs once the second class reaches that point.

How does it work for multi-class? My party has ~2.3 Million EXP at thend of CHapter 3, and Jaheira just got her first HLA (melee side, she's a Ranger/Cleric this go around) - any reason why?

I seem to recall multi-class characters getting them earlier before, but it's still a bit surprising - anyone know?

Thanks in advance!

All characters (except dual) get their first HLA once they reach the first level after a total of 2.950.000 XP.
That means multi classes get a HLA each time one of their classes gains a level beyond 1.475.000 XP (or 983.334 for F/M/T and F/M/C)

That's what I thought...

So, it's some kind of funky bug that Jaheira is getting hers at 2.3 Million total EXP? (~1.15 Million on each class)

That's weird indeed...
Something similar happened when I played a monk, he got one HLA around 2,6 Million XP, than no more until the first level after 2,95 Million.

You understood right, HLAs (=High Level Abilities) are special abilities/spells that characters get in Throne of Bhaal.
Each class has more or less different HLAs, and on each level up over SoA's XP-Cap of 2,95 Million you can choose one.

HLAs

The High Level Abilities were added in with ToB, but you can get them in SoA. The really odd thing is that J seems to have missed one know she should be getting them. Hopefully it'll all come out in the wash.

So HLAs are not in SoA but only in ToB?

If you have ToB installed you can get HLAs in SoA, if you only have SoA (no ToB installed) you can't, since you can't reach more than 2,95 million XP without ToB and you only get HLAs after that.

But if you would somehow remove the xp maximum, could you get them? or can't you because there simply not installed on soa and were introduced in tob?

Yes, they are only available when ToB is installed.

Moving to the ToB forum.

nephtu, you ought to know by now that BG2 rules aren't really "rules"; they're more like "guidelines". :)

As far as I know, that "bug" only affects Cleric/Rangers. But it's not really a "bug"; it's a "feature". :)

I have a problem with my fighter/mage/cleric. All mage HLAs i get was those "get addition 6-8 level spells". I would like to know will i ever get level 10 spells?

I get fighter and cleric HLAs normally. I have installed exp cap remover so my character has now about 5 million experience in every class.

Hmm...

Do you have level 9 mage spells availabel to you? I don't think you can get ques tlevel spells untill you can cast those (but I may be wrong ;) )

I assume when you refer to 5 million EXP, you mean ~1.7 million per class, or does your character actually have 15 million EXP total?

Good gaming!

Yes i can cast level 9 spells. And yes i do have about 15 million total experience :)
I just finished Watchers keep which gave very much experience.
So any ideas why i dont get those powerful spells? I would be very interested of testing improved alacrity ;)

Since the ToB cap is 8 million fmt and fmc were never meant to be able to cast 9 level spells under the cap, hence no mage HLA's for them. You can download files from several places that will give your fmc access to them however. I'll see if I can find a location or you could do a search and see what you find. Shouldn't be to hard to find. Look through the top two threads.
