Flurry Or Power Attack?

Post by Kool69 »

Flurry (Master)
-1 Defense Next Round
-1 Attack Bonus Next Round
+1 Attack

Power Attack (Master)
+10 Damage
-3 Attack Bonus

Im goin for an armor Jedi, With Only 2 base attacks per round, which feat do you think would be better?

Flurry is far better. There is no penalty to the current round, meaning all your current attacks take place at full force. Power Attack looks good on paper, but the -3 attack penalty is laughable.

Depends mostly on how much damage you're doing per hit. If you get two attacks per round, you'll need to be doing at least an average of 20 damage per hit for flurry to be effective. If you can't manage that, then go with power attack. Neither penalty really matters by the mid-late game.

Critical Strike. With it, a 19-20 Crit weapon becomes a 13-20 weapon. If those are lightsabers, and each has an Opila crystal in it (along with one of the special colour crystals, and you still have room for a good damage crystal) then that will add 2-12 to your dice roll, average of 6. That turns your lightsabers into 7-20 crit weapons. So let me ask you, which is better, getting double damage 2/3rds of the time, getting +10 to attacks, or having one extra attack? Especially if you have Master Speed on at the same time, Flurry is only 5 attacks instead of 4, I'd much rather have most of my attacks do double damage than have one more that probably won't. Am I missing something here?

Depends on the situation. If you're up against a very tough opponent who can do tremendous damage with a single shot and you're low on healing goodies, I'd go with flurries. Same with many opponents, towards the start of a battle: I don't want to risk one of my team being stunned for a while and knocked out of the combat by somebody getting in a critical when mine failed. But I've used critical strike in combination with the saber crystals that deliver a heavy stun, and they worked very well, indeed.

Too slow? It's the same speed as anything else... I do prefer critical strike over anything else, but I thought this thread was limited to discussion of the other two. Oh well.

Spoiler....?
Flurry has done wonders for me. Master flurry is awesome.
Although if you decide to take up the full power attack level and have some kind of power guantlets; with nearly all the lower level enemies it takes one swift jump and hit to kill em.
And when I faced Darth Bandon, I put my force armor on, hit him three full power times and he was dead, I used Bastilla and Juhani to dispose of his goons to the side, which took a bit more doing using those two. Especailly when I was dark, boy they were worthless most often then not.
These aren't the droids you're looking for.

But it's difficult to justify using power attack when you're only getting two attacks per round. That's only 20 damage, and you can easily build a saber with a much higher average damage output than that.

Flurry, like Power Attack and Critical Strike, is melee only...
