I have the Skull and two power gems, but can't seem to activate it. How is it supposed to be done?

And additionally, why can't I seem to hit the skull with the Maul?

I believe to destroy the skull you need to take it to Burne's assistant..
but you also need all 4 gems to do it I think..

Yeah. That is what you have to do, it seems. And I did. Finished the game last night, as it happens.
But I never did figure out how to activate the damned skull!

you mean to use it to summon demons and such? just put it in your inventory and use the radial menu..same as other inventory items like wands..

Tried it. Didn't work. Maybe my neutral good alignment prevented it?

possibly..my party was Neutral that used it..did you make sure to cast identify on it?
