First of all Mudcrab is just that. A non-descript mudcrab sitting on a small island. So, if you are in the habit of squishing every mudcrab you encounter you could easily kill him without knowing it. Mudcrab is on a small island just east of Mzahnch, the dwemer ruin near Ald Sotha, Ball Fell, Suran and Telasero. Find the dwemer ruins and walk along the shore line with the ruins just to the west of you. Look for a shallow area between the Island that Mzahnch sits on and another small island - you can wade this narrow seperation between the two islands. There will be a single crab there. Try talking to him. He is drunk and slurs his words. If he responds then you've got him. If he attacks you then its not the right island or crab. Although Mudcrab carries 10,000 gps he only trades potions, weapons and armor. You will not be able to sell him spells, soul gems and other potentially expensive items. He also has a tendency to disappear unexpectedly from the game as is the case with a couple of other NPCs in the game. Once I find him I mark his island with lanterns and torches so I can easily relocate it. Once you've found him you can decide for yourself whether he's worth the trip. Since there's no time limits on this game I find the convience of Creeper preferable than Mudcrab. Good luck.

yeah ive heard a lot of arguments saying that the creeper's convinience wins out over the mudcrabs money supply but think about it. the mubcrab is carrying 10,000 gold. It wouldnt be fun if he was just sitting there in a bar in Balmora or something. He's one of the many little secrets that makes games enjoyable experiances. And i think he is actually more convinient because of his large money supply. It makes it easier to sewel Ordinator armor or glass armour. as well as daedric and other rare weapons. I just mark him and sell to my hearts content. Plus, the walk is good for you athletic skill and the enemies you encounter are all good for your other skills.
If at first you don't succeed, reload and try again.

You guys really got problems with money? Hey, it lies around everywhere. It's quite a problem not to step on it. Especially when you're a thief, you know, these coins can make a noise...

I changed some of the gameplay-settings in order to HAVE problems with the ca$h. And also I play hardcore roleplaying now...so I never loot bodies for crab. All I take are weapons and armors I can use...and rather valuable stuff. I'm walking around with 88 coins in my pockets right now. Makes the game a bit more interesting...really, this chitin armor is expensive, I can tell ya...

There's nothing to buy in the game after you're at level 12 or so, at least for me, save some apparel to enchant and herbs to do alchemy. The only real use of money actually are bribes then.
True, glass weapons (and Golden Saints with them) and Daedric ones start to pop up later, altogether i do not use strong weapon at this stage, only Steel and Silver mostly (and Bound when really necessary), because i wish to develop the skill.

creeper all the way. mark the mages guild, easy teleport to any city. creeper takes almost everything, and you can head 5 feet and rest outside to regen. creeper's cash. you can also drop masses of items in the bedroom to the east of creeper. the items will fall in bags. i have a 'book bag' and 'armor bag' a 'potions bag' and 20 others for easy access. and creeper sounds cool.

There's an old saying in the real estate business that goes that the three most important factors regarding a property are location, location and location. That's what Creeper has that Mudcrab can't touch. (and no, I'm not a real estate agent).

I put my mark right in front of Creeper so if I'm overburdened with loot I can teleport right to him and barter. I keep a pile of armorer's hammers at that same spot to repair the loot for max money and so the items stack in his inventory. I use him as a free storage system, especially for unique items that I may need to use again later on. If I sell everything to him I don't have to worry about schlepping all over the map trying to figure out who I sold an item to. After a certain quest the orc on the uppermost level leaves and his place makes a nice storage area with chests and window ledges. You can rest for 24 hrs riight in front of Creeper to regen his money or recharge all your health and magicka by sleeping on one of the nearby mats. You don't have to worry about Assassins spawning there either (at least I've never had one spawn in the orc manor). The town has a general store, armorer, clothier and mage guild with a guild guide for easy transport to other places. There's the Blade trainer's house and the woman allows you to use her bedroom to sleep and store stuff as well (I have had Assassins spawn in her house). I don't even bother with my stronghold after I get it as Caldera is just so convienient. And if you have the Master Propylon Index mod installed (sorry xBoxers) you can use the master index to teleport to and from any of the forts. There are also a lot of great trainers in the town for some of the more important skills. Early in the game I just do all my business with Creeper and spend all the money I've made on the trainers and level ups.

Re: Re: Spoiler - Where is the Money

In regard to ASSASINS not spawning at CREEPERs place. Not true. I was at a shrine and for some stupid reason I asked for Vivec's Wrath. Well the bastard sent a Dark Brotherhood assasin after me. I was at CREEPERs bartering when he struck. I must say I was surprised as it made me leap from my seat. After dispatching him I decided to start locking the door behind me. Not sure if he spawned inside or outside but as mother once said, better safe than sorry. One the bright side, the hapless assasin didn't stand a chance and was dipatched without breaking a sweat. I then proceeded to sell his gear to Creeper for a profit -- oh yeah.

No offense but I think you've linked two independent events together that have no bearing on one-another. Making a donation at a shrine for Vivic's Wrath does not cause an assassin to spawn. Having Tribunal loaded and then sleeping may cause one or two assassins to spawn if you haven't talked to the Imperial Legion inspector in Ebonheart. I may be wrong about Dark Brotherhood assassins spawning at Creepers but I can assure you your experience was not encountered because of Vivic's Wrath.

Some of the mage guild enchanters have a decent amount of money but they won't give you full price like Creeper or Mudcrab. You'll be lucky to get 25% of the price of an item at anyone other than these two, and if you need an item back they make you pay their mark up. As you merchantile score goes up you get less and pay less from merchants but you can negotiate the price more. So sell to Mudcrab if possible and buy from merchants.
