Blasters, Heavy Weapons

Post by Sethernis »

Most players use Melee weapons, at least from what i got.
The question is; Can Roll Weapons get better then lightsabers?
Of course there are many good weapons but take ex. Heavy Weapons; They miss much and don't take as much as promised.
I had my DEX 32 char with all the upgrades on Heavy weapons and Rolls and still found that even jolee beats me when it comes to Damage done with only weapons.
Besdies, HK-47 might be a funny guy, but he sucks.
Carth is probably the best guy of Canderous, HK-47 and himself when it comes to use of Roll weapons.
One qustion though, Does Heavy weapons and blaster rifles count as Two Handed weapons or one handed?
And, Is Lightsabers Melee or are they in their own class?

Lightsabers are considered a class of weapons by themself, and thus don't benefit at all from melee specialisation.

Rifles/heavy weapons are considered neither one- nor two-handed weapons, and don't benefit from either dueling or two-weapon fighting.

The main disadvantage of ranged weaponry is that whilst melee weapons and lightsabers receive increased damage from the character's strength bonus, there is no way to increase the base damage of a ranged weapon.

There is no real 'best' out of Carth/Canderous/HK-47, because you can equip any of them with whatever you want.

If you don't have access to the Yavin spacestation, none of your ranged options are particularly good. If you do, though, then you can get some fantastic heavy weaponry. Repeaters get two attacks per round out of course, and there are some very powerful ones available at Yavin. The Baragwin heavy repeating blaster does 7-46 base damage when fully upgraded, which is great.

Thank you for answers, but i do not agree on who's best on Carth/Canderous/HK-47. Carth begins with a natural Dexterrity whilst HK-47 got more strength then Dex and so do Canderous.
If you give them all the Feats and Attributes that a Shooter needs and the same weapons, Carth will hit more, and with more accuracy.
But this "Two Weapon Fighting" Feat, doesn't Double-bladed lightsaber include in that feat? or 2 Lightsabers in each hand?

Carth is blatantly best, because you get him earliest, so you can steer him away from the sucky path of Ranged weapons and make him a melee master :D

Yeah, exactly my thought.
HK-47 is still the funniest NPC in the game. Some think Jolee is funny, i just think he is a "Crazy old coot" :D

Well, if you can manage eight or nine base repair skill with your PC, then you can do all of HK-47's upgrades and he'll end up with two points more base dexterity than Carth. Although Carth can use various dexterity increasing items, whilst HK-47 can't.

If you want a melee fighter, Canderous is way better than Carth for reasons that should be plainly obvious. In terms of maximum potential, Carth can get his base dexterity up to 31 with some serious item usage (28 in the Xbox version), Canderous can get his up to 27 (or 24), and HK-47 can get 22. Then again, I've never bothered putting much effort into beefing up supporting characters before.

Interesting point you got there, but if it come to terms of orginal character skills and feats, then carth is the best blaster in the game. One small thing, I thought you just could acces HK-47's memory on ebon hawk, right? Are you saying you can "unlock" some of his skills, that he had before? Like he gets more Strength and Dexterrity and so on? If that's the case, then how to do it?

When it comes to feats Carth is certainly not the best, because pistols are mediocre and Carth comes with a whole bunch of feats wasted on two-weapon and pistol specialisation. Heavy weapons are far better. But Carth and Canderous are both soldiers and you'll have more feats with them than you'll know what to do with anyway.

At any point between the time you get HK-47 and the Leviathan sequence, you can upgrade him. Fully upgraded, he gets +4 dexterity, +2 defense, and regenerates 2 VP per round. His final upgrade requires 17 repair skill, but you can boost it through various means. There's a belt that gives +3 repair available in the PC version. You'll probably need more than 9... my main character usually has 14 intelligence, then I use the memory implant and master valor to get it up to 20, which amounts to +5 repair in trickle down. If you don't like skills, aren't a scout and won't invest in repair, then you can't really upgrade HK-47.

HK-47:

HK function really well fully repaired. His attack rating was almost as high as my characters. With the superior targeting computer found on the leviathan he will get weapon specialization blaster rifle and pistol and his weapons will do more damager. If you don't want to get him Jamoh Hogra's Carbine or Jurghan Kalta's assault rifle, give him a zabrak tystel Mark III, Zabrak blaster pistol, Madalorian heavy pistol, or a Mandalorian Assault rifle. Zabrak blaster pistol and Mandalorian assault rifle add a chance to stun which helps. Also, don't forget his special weapons such as advanced flamethrower, carbonite projector Mrk III or advanced stun ray. These also make him function really well in your party.

Carth:

Carth is pretty accurate with his pistols as well I'd say. I pump his dex and give him light armor. Best armor for him is Darth Bandon's fiber armor. Best pistols are Cassus Fett's havy pistol for damager. In his off hand you could give him either a Mandalorian heavy pistol for damage OR something like Saul's sith assasin pistol for stunning capabilities. When facinf shielded opponents such as Saul himself, I usually equip Carth with two Mandalorian Rippers which are disruptors and punch right through Saul's shields. Carth should really be the one to take out Saul anyway ;) . That way, my character can take out the jedi...

Canderous (Candy):

Canderous imo seems better as a melee tank. I up his strength, give him Calo Nord's armor and give him some nice blades. I usually go with two-weapons and give him either poison blades or Ajunta Pall's sword. You could go Bacca's blade, but I think it is over-powered. As a ranged fighter I would get Canderous off heavy weapons because I think they suck. First time I played him I just used his repeater and I felt like he kept missing with it.

Mission:

Don't forget mission! she has good dex and hits pretty well. I usually pump dex and upgrade rapid shot with her. I then give her a weapon that stuns like Saul's assasin pistol so that she can use her sneak attack. You can also upgrade her dueling which helps her to hit, Throw on the pistol targetting opticsor combat sensor and she is even better.

Thank you very much!!
A couple of question though,
1. Where can i find that Jamoh Hogra's Carbine, i had it before, but don't remember where i got it from..
2. How you do get HK-47's stats up? Repair him on the ebon hawk? If so, can i use etc, Mission for that?
3. Is there a gadget that increases your repair stats, without being a droid? If so, where can i find it?
4. Do you need to be really good at repair to get HK-47 to be better?
5. In the end when HK-47 remebers who was his old master, then do you get all this "extra powers" as well, or do you still need to repair him?

1. Jamoh Hograh's carbine can be brought from the merchant in the hangar on tattooine.

2. Hk-47 can be repaired at any time outside of combat by the main character only. Simply tell him that you wish to repair him.

3. anything that would increase your repair rating can be used. I am not sure of specific items. The memory implant on Gadon Thek's corpse can boost intelligence by one point. also force valor and master valor can raise stats to get your skill up.

4. Full repaired HK-47 is literally a tank. His armor rating was 34 and his attack rating was really high. w/o repairing him he is still good (armor rating of 30 w/ heavy armor type 3), just not as good and he doesn't regenerate vp which I find useful since force heal doesn't work on him.

5. You do not get HK-47's added powers after the Leviathan if you do not repair him. I just checked this out. He still becomes a pretty impressive assault droid by the end of the game though.

thank you very much! i have to 3 final questions :p

1.Do you need a high repair skill to repair him?

2. If you have i.e 4 in repair, will it fail?

3. If you have i.e 10 in repair, instead of i.e 8, will you get him better if you have 10, or is it the same, just as you repair him?

There are four repair sequences you can do in order. The first takes 8 repair skill, the second takes 11, the third takes 14 and the final sequence takes 17.

Yes, frequently. My characters generally start with 14 INT, and from there it's just a matter of getting your base repair up to 9.
