Summoning Table Anyone?

Post by friedmad »

OK, I guess that title may be a bit misleading, since I dont have a summoning table but rather I am asking if anyone does.

It would be helpful to have a table of what creatures could potentially get summoned at what level.

What I've seen for level IX so far is: Greater Werewolf, Frost Giant, Cyclops, Red Abishek.

Summoning Table

I will compile a list of what the summons get depending on the level(depends on the spell too).

Tonight I have tested level 1-30 with Monster Summonings #. Only for 1, 2 and most of 3, because cheating one level at a time and casting over and over, took LONG. 2 hours for just 1-9.

Levels 4 and beyond of the Monster summoning spells are done at level 30 sorcerer.

Anyways, here is what I have observed, and it may not be entirely accurate.

Monster Summoning 1
Beetle -- Dog -- Goblin

Monster Summoning 2
Orc -- Spider(tiny sized) -- Wolf

Monster Summoning 3
Elite Neo Orog -- Elite Lizardman -- Lemur(ugly little things!) -- Werewolf(at higher levels only... seemed to replace Lemur)

Monster Summoning 4
Minotaur -- Hook Horror -- Mummy -- Red Myconid

Monster Summoning 5
Yeti -- Frost Salamander -- Salamander(fire kind).
==NOTE:: a Salamander and a Yeti, will result in the Yeti being hurt by the Salamander's Aura of Fire, but not by the Frost Salamander's Aura of Frost. A salamander and frost salamander will hurt each other with their Auras.

Monster Summoning 6
Umber Hulk -- Otyguh
==NOTE:: Unlike other levels, I could not get any other creatures

Monster Summoning 7
Scrag(troll-like creature)
==NOTE:: Again, the only creature I could get to spawn, many castings.

Monster Summoning 8
Cyclops -- Bone Scavenger(soarsmen/wyvern thing) -- Red Abishai

Monster Summoning 9
Greater Feyr -- Remorhaz -- Frost Giant -- Greater Werewolf

OTHER Summoning Skills :
Shadow Conjuration
Cornugon -- Glabrezu
==NOTE:: Cornugon has an aura of fear. Also, there are supposedly Caster/'levels' of monsters, will do more testing tomorrow.

Greater Shadow Conjuration
==NOTE:: Same summons as Shadow Conjuration??? Caster/Levels??? Will do more testing tomorrow.

Cacofiend, Fiend, and Gate
Cornugon -- Glabrezu -- Gelugon(aka Pit Fiend)
==NOTE:: These are NOT under your control. They will attack anyone NOT protected with the spell(s) Protection from Evil/Magic Circle Against Evil. Difference is, Pro Evil is for 1 person, MCAE is a 10-foot radius of Pro Evil, centered on the Caster.

They will cast spells that are area affect spells, mostly cone shaped spells, and even Ice Storm. Cornugons will Teleport to their targets. These creatures WILL fight each other(and probably other summons not protected with Pro Evil) if more than 1 is summoned.

More to come tomorrow, and more thorough testing... its 2 am, must get to bed.

EDIT: I woke up and its now 11am, and it doesn't look like I will have time to test some of these things out today or tomorrow. I will make an update ASAP. In the meantime, enjoy what ya got.

Update!

Woot, I had some time to do some testing today, been a busy week, and seeing as how I can't really play online(big download) I decided to continue testing the summon skills. This time around, I focused on Shadow Conjuration, Greater Shadow Conjuration, Shades, and once again, on Gate.

Interesting to note that, Shadow Conj and Greater Shadow Conj. use the same monsters, but at different HP percentages. More notes on this later.

Anyways, here's more info. (Also, might be a little off, this is just my testing, you may have slightly different results)

Used an Aasimar Sorcerer for these tests.
(##) level of sorcerer

Shadow Conjuration -- Greater Shadow Conjuration
(12)
Yeti -- Salamander(Aura of Fire)
(18)
Red Abishai -- Frost Giant -- Greater Werewolf
(24)
Remorhaz -- Greater Feyr
(30)
Cornugon(aura Fear) -- Glabrezu

Shades
(12)
Umber Hulk -- Cyclops -- Scrag
(18)
Red Abishai -- Frost Giant -- Greater Werewolf
(24)
Remorhaz

''Shades'' summoned monsters have 60% total hp of its normal counterparts.
''Shadow Conjuration'' summoned monsters have 20% total hp of its normal counterparts.
''Greater Shadow''... well... it doesn't say there's % total hp of its normal counterparts. Might be total HP%

Also, if Greater Shadow has 100% HP of its normal counterpart, that means that taking Greater Shadow Conjuration instead of the Summon Monster ## spells is better. Often enough the monsters are better, if not, almost as good, as the many numerous Summon Monster spells. It's like taking several spells all in one.

Gate
I did more testing, using various summons + gate to see what would happen.

Summoned a monster with Shades. Got level 30 Cleric to cast Magic Circle against Evil. Then cast Gate. The Gelugon(aka Pit Fiend) did not attack the Shade. Summoned another Shade, Gelugon proceeded to kill the new Shade.

Cast Magic Circle against Evil(on the Pit Fiend - said it was Protected from Evil) then cast another Gate. Result: Pit Fiends cannot be protected from Evil. they proceeded to cast spells at each other non-stop. (do these things actually fight with their arms or teeth??)

Spells the Pit Fiends cast(1 new discovered spell)
Ice Storm
Ice Lance
Cone of Cold
Teleport Without Error(new spell)

that's about all the testing there is to do. Enjoy the list+info.

An easy way to find out if shades or greater shadow has the higher % hp, is to find a level where they can both summon the same creatures and then pit them against one another - I see you did something like that for the gate-like spells. Maybe I'll try it and post again. Also, I note that there are no references to summon undead... Anybody know what the progression is? I've yet to get past summoning greater boneguards and zombie lords.

Thats some nice work Valahan, maybe you could make a wordpad, or word document out of it and upload it to the internet so id2-related sites could povide it as a download. Just a thought, keep up the good work

Animate Dead only summons zombie lords and greater boneguards. Frankly, I'd rather it only summoned greater boneguards. Zombie lords move so...... freakin..... slow.....

undead

actually, I kept playing my necro, and about lvl 22 (can't remember exactly), undead upgrade to apocolyptic boneguards and festering drowned dead - both of which are amazing. The boneguards are unmatched for damage (+fire) and the drowned are bristling with enfeebles (area disease/weakness/nausea). You just have to remeber to cast protection from evil to avoid any unpleasant backfire.

Summon Shadow

Hi, great work on the summoning table!

Just wanted to know if the spell Summon Shadow is any good. I'm thinking of taking it with my Bard over Shadow Conjuration (that 20% of normal h.p. means they die pretty easy). Does anyone know if the Shadows actually get any good? I'm hoping they are as good as the Animate Dead creatures.

Also, has anyone looked into the Summon Natures Ally spells? They seem stronger than the Monster Summon spells of equal level. With S.N.A II, I've got a Highland Snake which is fast and has poison? so far with my Fighter/Druid, a little better than the Orc or Tiny Spider you can get with the equivalent monster summon. I'd love to see a progression on the SNA spells!

I've also found that Luck plays a part in what monsters your summon gets. I always have my Bard play Tymora's Melody for the Luck bonus before a summon. This gets me Greater Zombie Lords and Cold Bones with my 11th Level Cleric Animate Dead rather than Greater BoneGuards and regular Zombie Lords.

Finally can you get Glaberzu's and Cornugon's with Shades or just the Shadow and Greater Shadow Conj. spells?

Summan Shadow and Shades

As far as I can see, Shades is just the highest version of the Shadow Conjuration spells as it is a higher level than Greater Shadow Conj. and gives summoned creatures 60% of normal h.p - I suspect Gr. Shad. Conj. gives 40%.

But Summon Shadow summon completely different creatures, Shadows rather than shadow versions of other monsters like the Shadow Conjuration/Shades spells, like Animate Dead summons undead.

I have to say I really love these spells, summoning an army of nasty creatures can really help out in many fights (I'm playing IWD2 for the first time on the difficulty level just under Insane) and the fact that the creatures you get improve with your level means they stay useful throughout the game. Actually getting good monsters that cast spells, have special abilities and aura's of fear, fire etc. are really cool. Gone are the days when the best summons were Elementals!

One more question though - if you get a Glaberzu or Cornugon with Shadow Conj. do you need to be protected from evil to stop them attacking you like you do with Cacofiend?
