What about...

Post by Jibblies »

So like everyone here, I'm a huge RPG player. But I'm also equally into driving games and car sim games too. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any games that combine character creation and RP'ing with cars and racing? Of course there's games like GTA and Driver 2, but I think it would be kind of cool to have a game that let's you have more control over how a character develops and stuff, but isn't a fantasy/combat based game. Just curious what people think about it.

GTA and driver don't really have real character creation. I can see what you're getting at... but the latest Need for Speed: Underground seems to have some stuff like that. The more races you win and the more neat stuff you buy, the better the crowd likes you and you draw a bigger crowd when you drive. I haven't played this game, but I've read a review in PC Gamer.

Otherwise, I don't see very much else. The only game I'd recommend is the first GTA (not that crap GTA3) because in GTA, you can choose a "side" to be on, and have different missions. Kinda cool stuff.

cool...yeah, i just got NFSU and it's definitely got a lot of cool character options and a sort of RP feel to it. I suppose it's alot harder to really have that aspect be a big part of a driving game since it's not as communal as an MMO. I wonder if anyone will come up with an MMO driving game??...that could be interesting...maybe a Mad Max sort of thing...anyway, now that i've got NFSU I think i'll be able to get my fix for awhile, at least until Driv3r comes out. That one still looks pretty amazing to me, especially now that Ridley Scott is involved.

There's a driving mini-game in every section of Star Wars: KotOR. I highly recommend the game and if you can win the car races, my hat's off to you - I suck at it.

That's pretty cool...I hadn't heard about KotoR much... i've never been as into the star wars based games as i am the fantasy/historical type. I was thinking more in terms of more standard driving games. i'd love to see an MMORPG based on Speed Racer for example. but that might be a stretch.
