Cookie problems

Post by fable »

Is anybody else experiencing cookie problems when logging on? I find that the USER CP controls (options, private messages, etc) recognizes who I am, but when I go to post, the board doesn't--and I have to reenter my handle and password. In addition, the board doesn't seem to recall my full-width display setting, until I run through options once, save, and return to the forums. All of this only started over the last twenty-four hours. Weird.

Sometimes, using Netscape Mail i use the link and when I ask to post a message or reply it asks me for Id again.
And sometimes it keeps warning me that 'this page was encripted and will no longer be'... I dunno if it is related.
But it is one each twenty times.

I have sort of the same problem at another forum, Enworld, it doesn't remember me as a member ans I have to log one every time at everything I do; for instance post.

They also run on vBulletin.
Since I don't post there often I haven't reported it there, but the error seems to be the same on the same bulletin. So thought I'd mention it.

No problems here though. :)

But that's not my problem. The board *does* remember me as a member--in the user cp-related areas. It doesn't recognize me as a member when I try to access the forums, until I sign in.

Have you tried clearing your temp.internet files and cookies, and then log in again ?

What have I noticed is, in my case, it tells that the encryption on the page is broken, and the navigator tells me there is an error bout it.

Hope it helps.

I've got it set to accept all cookies. I use Smasher to track and discriminate among cookies. It used to maintain 2 cookies for GB, but recently, it started tracking a third which has shown up, as well. I've allowed all three. I've also tried removing all three, logging on, signing in, and then allowing all three when they showed up in Smasher, once more. And I've tried disabling Smasher, so all cookies are permitted.

GB still won't acknowledge me--except when I click on user cp. There, it knows who I am automatically.

And GB is the only place you have a problem?

Actually, I've had a similar problem off and on, Fable. Though in my case, I get the added frustration of having a pop up tell me there is non-secure items on every page. I fiddled with it to try and get it to work, to no avail, and it eventually just went away on it's on. Finicky.

Yeah, only place that the problem occurs, @Xan. I may have to accept Aegis' solution, and just wait for it to solve itself.

Started two days ago

I've got the same problem. It started two days ago. The forum used to remember my login name and password. Now I have to login each time. Also I am getting those pesky warnings about secure and non-secure info and have to click on one or the other each time I access a new thread or forum. If I choose NO (don't display non-secure items) then I don't get the advertisements and such. I use AOL 9.0 Optimized and have tried enabling and disabling pop-ups changing security settings, etc but can't seem to find the problem or comprehend why it started just two days ago. I noticed that the web address has added "secure" in front of the "gamebanshee.com/forums" address. I don't recall that being there before. Now it shows up as "secure.gamebanshee.com/forums". Has it always been this way and I'm just now noticing the address change? Hope someone figures out what's going on soon as it makes browsing the forums a frustrating experience.

Previously, there were a pair of cookies associated with GB. Now, there's a third, secure.gamebanshee. My guess is that the security issue and the login problems are both tied to this. In any case, I've discovered that if I use a bookmark set directly for the forums, instead of setting one for the title page and then entering, everything works as before. Hope that helps.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this. We're currently making some behind-the-scenes changes to the SSL coding and subscription functionality, so there could be a few quirks with logging into the forums from time to time. If you encounter further problems, please post them here. Thanks!

The problem seems to have abated. Whatever BuckSatan did to the SSL coding seems to have improved the situation greatly. For a couple of days I could not log on at all. Things are pretty much back to normal as far as I can tell. Thanks.
