Enchanting Questions

Post by Zaeon »

I have been reading several very helpful things in this forum relevent to enchanting. What is confusing me is the use of the term 'constant effect'.

I am a level 37 Kajiit Agent. My spellcasting abilities are trained up as high as my current governing attribute allows; which admittedly is still low. All other non class schools of magik are around 39% proficiency ATM.

I have exquisite and extravagant items galore, as I can steal just about anything with my race/class combo. I also have a large collection of stones, mostly stolen, of various types, several of the grand variety with some rather impressive creatures souls within them. Every time I pay to enchant an item, I never get the screen to say constant. I can only set my minimum strength, maximum strength, area (if appropriate) and duration. There is no 'constant' duration that I have been able to find. What am I doing wrong? where is this? and is it normal for a single enchant to cost over 800,000 gold or more?

also.....

Illusion and Conjuration are the two minor magika disciplines for my class specification, but for some strange reason whenever I go to a mage for the creation of a spell, night eye(or whatever the nightvision spell is called) is all that is available... why is this? When will I start to get the options to have some of the other Illusion spells available to me? My school of Illusion is over 60%. Is my only option to buy pre made spells? Will I ever get the chance to create and or combine my own spell affects outside of practicing alchemy?

certain creature souls can do the constant effect spell. golden saints can, summoned or not. ascended sleepers can which are found in sixth house bases such as illunibi and red mountain. they are the only ones that can do that effect. vivec can as well but he is highly resistant to magicka (or to me at least). his soul is worth 500,000 but you need azura's star to trap it for he is too big to be contained in a grand soul gem. Golden Saints and Ascended sleepers are worth 80,000. If you join the mages guild, after you do raynes duties, she'll give you the soul drinker which soul traps 30 seconds on strike and it is a daedric dagger so it is a good short blade weapon. make sure you have grand soul gems handy when you try to trap souls.

IT IS BECAUSE YOU NEED A GOLDEN SAINT OR ASSENDING SLEEPER FOR THE CONSTANT EFFECT , THEY ARE THE ONLY TWO THAT DO THAT

About your problems making spells, first you have to buy a pre-made spell with the effect you want then later when you go to make your spell it will list that effect for it ;)
I used to hate going to weddings because the old people would always say,"You Next! You Next!" Now I go to funerals and tell them the same thing.

Yeah, just to clarify what Kool69 said. If you for example want to make a spell that does Sanctuary and Nighteye at the same time, you first have to buy Nighteye spell (if you don't have it that is) and also you must buy the Sanctuary spell. It doesn't matter how powerful the spells you buy are, you really just need the most basic one to start using it to make your own spells. Anyways, once you got both of the spells together, you can go to the nearest spellmaker and make any type of combination of Sanctuary/Nighteye spell. Hope this helps.

Many thanks for the helpful suggestions. With the advice of all of you I am now casting spells of my own creation as well as those that are premade by others.

On enchanting again.... I understand now that there are only a few mobs in the game that can give a constant effect on an item.

I understand that in order to enchant I need to have a charged up soul gem of the appropriate variety.

I also am aware that there are scrolls and weapons and other such items that aid in the trapping of souls.

I have been told by friends that in order to trap a soul I need to 'almost' defeat an intended target. That I should wait until they are almost beaten, then cast a 30 second soul trap on them and then finish them off. This is all very exact sounding except that I have no idea how to tell when they are almost dead. Is there a health meter for the enemy somewhere on the screen during combat that I am not seeing?

What are some of the methods you all have used in making certain that you had a successful soul trap?

Thanks for the info about waiting until there almost dead to trap them ,I have been trying to soul trap the golden saint with no avail , the golden saint I noticed puts her hands together before poofing away , that is after 2-3 hits with a sword .

Easiest way to soul trap a monster is to enchant your wepon with a soul trap 30 seconds on hit to use ONLY when soul hunt'in. Have another power weapon to use on those normal monsters your not looking to soul trap. Hope this helps!

BTW important thing to note with golden saints is that they have Reflect Magicka on them meaning that even if you cast Soul Trap on them it doesn't mean it goes through all the time, also besides enchanting a weapon with soul trap for 30 seconds on hit, you can make a damage spell with soul trap. My favorite to use would be something like Damage Health/Soul Trap, damage and duration are really up to you and you skills in the two magick schools.
