Watchers Keep?

Post by Eusabian »

Will someone please give me a hint on how to defeat the four element monster in the second level of the watchers keep. (the one that has acid, fire, ice and air forms) plus, if i do damage to it in one form does it transfer to all the others?

And also, what do i need to do to open up "Underdar" on the map?

Thanks

No, the damage does not transfer. you have to damage each element with its counter element.
The best way I found to use was lightning vs. the acid form.

Well, I did

Poison: Chain Lightning (normal lightning endangers party)
Ice: Flame Arrow
Fire: (Cone of Cold, only if no party member stands in the way)
Air: Melf's Acid Arrow

Besides that. just bash him with your fighters using weapons with elemental damage (frost reaver, firetooth etc.), he takes only small amounts of damage fom weapon attacks but it sums up to a nice amount.

Ok, re-read - you meant the monster that transforms - not the actual elementals in the room  sorry.

I had archers with acid arrows, my druids transformed into fire elementals, and my mage with lightning spells, cone of cold etc. Then fighters engaging in melee... :)

I had my thief set 7 traps before freeing the Chromatic Demon (everyone knows you can't trust demons as far as you can throw them :p :D ). He died very quickly...
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

A. You could use pot. of insulation(100% resistence to electricity)

B. ligtning could be tested to see what its rout is, so that it doesn't hurt your party.

C. lightning did not realy hurt my group, because of saves, immunities, resistances, or the little damage that it dealt.
It is certainly not going to kill your group.

I personnally don't like lightning, I liked in BG1 but switched the level 3 damage spells to fireball and flame arrow in BG2. It simply gets on my nerves if my own spells hit my party, especially if they hit my mage, who is not a HP monster.

And I'm certainly not gonna use potions to protect me from my own spells. Having 100% fire resistance from items and then using self-centered fireballs in melee situations is one thing. Using scrolls or potions to protect my characters from suicide is something different.

With the methods mentioned in this thread the demon is not much of a threat btw, I doubt he will cycle through his incarnations more than time.

Who's talking about spells? I don't memorize fireball, cloudkill or lightning, I just use the wands!

Our playing is somewhat different I think.

;)

The only wand-type item I really use is the rod of ressurection. I sell all others (except the one of spell striking from WK), because I simply don' need them. I have enough level three slots and besides that my mid-level favorites are web/death fog combo (no wand), Melf's acid arrow (no wand) and magic missiles (wand is weak).
