I think if I had to choose between Imoen and Nalia (actually, I will have to...hehe) and they were the same level, I'd stick with Nalia. My only basis for my argument is that I kinda like Nalia's dialogue...and I have inside info that Imoen is a skank

hypothetically i wreckon you should get rid of both of them but because you are in the asylum you can't get any other characters. You really can't get any other characters until underdark is complete. Good Luck

Thanks for all the feedback.

I decided to stick with Nalia as she became able to remember level 7 spells. I did not want to waste time with Imoen for that.

By the way Iomen can reach level 8 spells.(and so does Nalia me thinks) And Nalia "for the needy" war cry is really getting on my nerves.

I always wondered what all the hub-bub about magic users was... Sure, their spells can devestate a whole flock of enemy creatures, but come on! With fighter characters like Minsc, and Boo (Yes, I consider Boo a character in my team) How can resist going the path of the dumb block head who smashes everyting in sight! Just listen to some of bitch ass funny war cries you can get from fighters in these games, Minsc espcially! (Go for the Eyes Boo, the Eyes!) So, before ditching fighters for mages and clerics, think about those less intelligant, and maybe give them a weapon, and send them head first into a swarm demon spawn, you never know, it might turn to your favor...

And if the mage happens to have "protection from magical weapons","improved invisibilty","mantle" and some kick ass ofensive spells , you my friend, are not going to last long.

I love fighters, but a balance is required. Which is why I use Jaheira more as a fighter than a spell caster. Give her good equipment, and she can fight. Plus, as a backup healer, it makes sense.

The spell casters are there to give the blades the edge they require.

Yes, but that "Insect plage" works wonders on spellcasters.

That's certainly true about comptuter controled mages, who sit around all day waiting for the PC's party to show up so they can instantly fire off all their premeorized spell triggers and contingencies. But for in-party mages, who can't afford to rest after every single battle. So he rests, only to find that he picked the wrong spot to rest, so now a pack of orcs appears and kills the helpless mage.

I'm not saying I don't like mages: I played an all mages (most were dual or multiclassed) party in BG2. All were at the XP cap, when I decided to fight Drizzt's party just for the heck of it to see how my mages would fare against tough fighters. Needless to say, I learned pretty quick how slow casting spells once per round is vs fighters that are attacking at 4x the speed Image. It's not just that battle though: they also struggled against the drow because of high resistance (I used Tensor's Transformation a lot). The same applies to Suldanessar, because of the magic resistant golems.

Point is, mages are useful, but they definately have their limitations. Fortunately, for those of us that like playing characters that don't depend a whole lot on equipment, there's always the godly monk class Image

I agree with Caernarvon. I think a party with four mages is the limit. You do need at least one stupid, brainless fighter to take hits with a shield, and an additional brute dual wielding to dish them back. That way your mages can stay at the back and hurl Melf's Minute Meteors all day, and save their good spells for the important battles.
Plus, most liches are totally immune (not just magic resistance) to magic, and the only thing that can harm them is a fighter with weapons that do additional elemental damage (because of their absolute mantle). Since Jaheira is the brainless fighter with the shield, and Aerie is a cleric/mage, I also have a decent amount of clerical power.

Like jaheira Say .
"We must stife for balance."
Magic users alone won´t live long on their on, so thy team Up with Swordmans (and Swordwomans) so thy can live long. I agree that 4 mages in a party is a lot, 2 will be just fine, Cleric are a Different mater In GB II going without 2 Cleric is almost suicide , just like on bg I were jaheira was suficient to made the Game and a Thieft a Must, here at BG II is the Way Around, a thieft in no longer Critical for subvival but a cleric Is. Besides Clerics CAN fight on their on, just give them a Good Hammer, a Good Shield and let them do their Work

Exactly. I have Aerie at -5, with potion of fortitude. She weilds a war hammer +3. If required, she fights well. Jaheira is my fighter first then cleric second. She is a -7 with a Club +3. Aerie is my magician, but even she fights with the bow and arrow. The only person missing a good +3 weapon is Minsc, cause I can't find a good +3 long sword.

I have just reached the Sahuguin city, so I don't know how my group will fare in the later stages.

But a point on why magic is essential, is that even a fighter strong party needs all the magical equipment to make a difference. Ordinary weapons will not do.

In the end, as Jaheira says "Let there be balance". Hence a mixed team is good.

BTW, My party works on 4 fighter and two magician strength.

Grrr... I just found the Lilacor blade. My god is he is annoying! He is always whining about killing stuff! At first, it was slightly amusing, but now.... Grrr....

There's the Sword of Roses (or whatever) which is an excellent +3 Longsword. Alternatively give him Katana skill and use Celestial Fury. Then there's Axes, Flails, Halberds...
