Twisted rune easy beaten

Post by Aule »

I wonder why everybody is always so talking about this shangalar dude, i beat the shoit out of him with ease!
i'm soloing a sorcerer and was at lvl 12 and only reloaded once. then killed em all then reloaded again to see if i could do this again and it worked again
it was just before i went to the asylum, listen:
i ran in the room to see where everybody spawned then reloaded.
i casted 5 skull traps between the beholder and the fighter then casted melf's minute meteors stoneskin true sight and improverd invisibility.
i ran through the skull traps, (they for some reason didn't trigger) i got to the top of the room hided behing the device wich can gat you back again.
when the twisted rune appeared the fighter + beholder were dead meat. only the wizard could see me. i killed here using my minute meteor's.
i then casted spider spawn to use up my remaining minute meteor's. got invisible fetch the staff. casted mordenkainer's sword from a scroll to kill the vampire. walked to shangelar to trigger al his spell trigger's/contingency.
walked away invisible waited for his trigger to wear off.
then casted spider spawn about, three more times and the spiders were very effective against shangalar.
i used only:
a identification scroll
a mordenkainer's sword scroll
a lvl 12 sorcerer equipped with
-robe of venca
-ring of wizardry
-ring of acnity
-belt of hill giant strength

ow one more thing. it was novice :D

I think that explains it all.
Reload and try it on Core, or even Max. Difficulty

That is an interesting strategy though, one I have never heard before. However its use on a higher difficulty would likely be in vain.

For even more fun..

Try it with Tactics and spell-50.

Nonetheless, congrats. I doubt you could normally rely on not triggering the skull traps.

Good gaming!

define 'difficult'

any battle in baldur's gate series is easy once you figure out how to do it. it's only computer AI you're up against after all. the twisted rune is slightly more challenging only because you're up against different types of monsters at the same time. even so, you can disable the lich and the wizard with death fog and cloud kill then kill the lich's minions, one at a time if you're soloing or all at once if you're in a party. you don't even need to prepare beforehand (maybe except haste) if you know exactly how the battle will unfold. but then again any battle could be won that way because the computer does the same thing over and over again.

i guess what i'm trying to say is that if your character has the gift of precognition (or perhaps experiencing deja vu :p ) then nothing's impossible for him :D

That's why I never solo, there's a thing as too much cheese. (Easier to just use a protection from magic scroll :o )

The skull trap not going off is because of the novice setting

For real cheese just use Yoshimo and plant traps everywhere.... reload by Dual Classing and then canceling, then just keep planting traps till you max out and you don't really have to worry about anything else

well even at novice the skull traps trigger sometimes, i guess you could place them in a way you won't trigger them. Then just use the same tactics and kill all

skull traps will only trigger if you go into their radius of effect, and to my experience if you are within radius of effect for most of a round...

this is why i prefer to use skulltraps as direct damage spells, since skulls cast on self detonate instantly....i use delay blast fireballs for my most trapping spawnpoints attacks..

try this...mirror image, skull, skull in a spell sequencer...and cast it on self...the mirror image will completely protect you from the skulls, and it goes off instantly... :p :p :p

yes, i usually use them as direct damage as well, but at that point i didn'y have all to much choice, i was a lvl 12 sorcerer. i didn't have delayed blast fireball.

I'm sure it's been said, but try it on Core and get back to us.

The Cowled Wizards cant enter the Twisted Rune....are you sure you are at the right place??

You need a Rogue stone to enter.... and the door is trapped btw. When you enter it, you cant leave the room until you beat the crap outta everyone.

When you enter the Tisted Rune room however, you first go to a hallway, before you get to the large room with the table, where Shangelar appears. You should be able to prepare yourself well enough...

And dont worry the language....er zijn meer mensen die uit NL komen :p :D

I ment outside...there I can't cast protective spells without being confronted by Cowled Wizards. And I already know the problem now...I tought I could walk right to the table and put some skulltraps around the table so the Beholder, Mage, Thief and Vampire would die :D . But then Shangalar talks to me...so now I just cast the protective spells when i'm in the first room....simple as that :D thanks Sytze !

If you are ready to take out the Twisted Rune, you are ready to take out those annoying Cowled Wizards.

Kill them .... kill them ALLLL!

some decent scrolls to be had, and the satisfaction of putting an end to the Cowled Menace.

they stop bothering you when they are scared of you

incinideary cloud is you friend when taking shangalar, he becomes so easy that its not even funny. the second you get lvl 8 spell you can take on them at once. throw in a cloud, walk over to the table untill the appearance of shangar is triggered, then run back out of sight, shangalar will begin taking damage from the cloud, and after taking damage excactly 4 times you HAVE to run over to him and trigger the dialog, this is very importan because at this point he will be near death and if you don't trigger the dialog you can never leave the plane nor get the staff of magi :D . At any rate my suberb timing made it so that at the excact second he teleports to you, he takes damage from the cloud a fifth time and dies at once, and you don't need to care about him, throw in a second and a third (if you have) cloud, and the hive mother will fall in a mather of seconds so goes for the sword guy. Now the only creatures you need to care about if you have done it right is the vampire and the wizard which can be taken down easely by raw melee power and dispel/breach magic.

Next time you play, try the Improved Twisted Rune mod from Tactics. They did a good job of upgrading this, and it presents much more of a challenge. Highly recommended, even if i did need four reloads.
