Custom Chars

Post by Echoes »

I have a level 10 Custom Fighter class which I named Mercenary.
He is a redguard. Im worried though, I hope I didn't set up a class that will be lacking at the end of the game.

His Major skills are Block, Heavy Armor, Long Blade, Athletics, Marksman.

His Minor Skills are Armorer, Restoration, Security, Acrobatics, and Alchemy.

For the most part I have been specing in Strength, Agility, and Endurance. I have speced alittle in willpower (because it was a x5) and I have speced a little bit in inteligence and I think once in speed.

Will my class be strong, well rounded char when he is at a higherlevel? and also, What should I mainly spec in when I level?

I don't think you need to worry. This is a very well-balanced game, so you should be OK whatever your main skills are. I've tried both a bosmer archer, and finished the game, a dunmer warrior, and I'm rocking the world with a custom made wizard-class altmer. All of them work(ed) fine for the game. It is wise to raise the attributes that give you multiple points per raise (as your willpower), as that makes your character grow stronger and get better potential for skills faster. As long as you don't neglect social skills you'll probably be just fine. :)

wow. that's almost exactly the same character as I created first time through. and rest assured, I had no problem whatsoever playing the game. It's a very good combat character, just remember to rely on enchanted items and potions instead of spells and you should be absolutely fine. I completed the game a while back, and I've done almost all the quests, including all the thieves and fighters quests.

there are some quests you may have problems with, but get some levels, pick your enemies well and remember that you can fight your way out of anything, and you'll be unstoppable.
;)

oh, and adrenaline rush is the greatest skill ever. turns a low-level tank character into a fast, deadly unstoppable killing machine. learn to love it.

Yes, social skills. Mercantile and Speechcraft. They are perhaps the most invaluable skills in the game. If you can't convince them, bribe them or threaten them, you'll have a hard time to get around with people.

The Argonian who is the head of the Sadrith Mora mage guild is the master trainer for speechcraft. Try the big stone mansion in Caldera and the basement of the theives guild in Balmora. Or practice on slaves. Before you release them you can talk your head off with them and they never seem to get very mad at you for failed admires. (Unless you killed them all already). Also you get a racial bonus when talking to someone of your own race. Find someone who is not important (a pauper or commoner) and practice admiring them. For a redguard try the egg miner by the Shulk egg mine (head south out of Balmora along the river until you come to a campfire). The redguard there is quite friendly.

well, once you find some rich, reliable merchants, money is no problem whatsoever, so bribery is easy after a while. just be patient. I mean, my speech skill is kinda sucky but I hardly ever use it.

I can bribe whoever I want, because I have more money than I can possibly spend and a room full of daedric, ebony, glass and generally nice enchanted gubbins. the only really useful time I use speechcraft is provoking attack from people you want to kill, and you can try as much as you like to do that.

As others have said Echoes - it shouldn't matter in getting through the game. Its just itime-consuming to level up skills in something that you didn't start out high in.

I preferred Mercantile to Speechcraft for Personality, and more rewarding! Also easier to build up, though it can be slow and time-consuming if you didn't start high - trying to sell mushrooms one by one to make a one drake profit each time.... but it builds up quickly, and easier than trying to practice speechcraft on slaves and commoners. I even make big profits off the Creeper!

My speechcraft still sucks, even when I taunt them down to zero, they ignore me...and I have to resort to either sneaking up on them in Chameleon mode and/or pay a few bounties, or get powerful enough to take half the town on!

.. but my Personality is maxed so that everyone usually loves me heaps, except for almost everyone in Sadrith Mora.... those Telvanni dunmer are really in bad moods....and all my enhance Personality items, and even the Bug Musk fails a lot of the time in that one town...

shame, coz one of their alchemists is one of the best stocked in the game...

I've figured they hate everybody...

my personal advice would b 2 stick a faction and generally not spend ages over little cash and little exp gained by selling stuff 1 by 1 in order 2 build up ur atributes insted w8 till u have killed some poeple with really nice gear knik it then go and sell it all in mourhold then just poay 4 ur training it will save so much time in long 1 besides ur armor wepon and perhaps restoration will sky roket at the start of the game neway cos thats basically all ur gonna use then branch off in2 other skills,

too true python friend :D

I've always bribed a lot, especially dunmer elves, they never liked me (a wood elf) from day 1 in Seyda Neen...but they do respond to money enough to get by ...

..but its only in the Telvanni places they are really nasty, arrogant and bad-mannered....

..guess it would help to be a Telvanni, huh?
