There is a list of all equipment in the game right here on Game Banshee. For armor look at http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgateii/armor.php
Then again, you may not want to be spoiled. Instead, let yourself be surprised. You can only play this game for the first time once

A thief can only wear leather, for instance, while a fighter or paladin can wear any armor. Mages, on the other hand, can't wear any armor at all.
There is, however, a nice piece of armor early in the game; you can get it from the duergar Illych on the first level of Irenicus' dungeon.
the party I want to form:
my PG (Pally)
Minsc
Jan
Nalia
Viconia
later Mazzy
Well..
Rather than a "Wear this armour, use this weapon" , take a moment to learn why armour and/or weapons are good, and you will be able to select them yourself. Most armour is just a matter of what AC and/or special effects it provides, so it's usually pretty easy. Low AC is good
But there are exceptions. For instance - depending on skill sets & circumstances, you may want Minsc or Jan to do the sneaking ahead to spy on opponents (they're the only ones with stealth skills) - so, if it's Minsc, he won't want to wear heavy plate while doing so. Untill you get access to the better leather-type armours, you may want to mostly have Minsc wearing heavy plate. Think about this kind of thing going forward.
Anyway, some input:
Mostly, Jan's starting gear is pretty good. You may want to give him some higher AC bracers and just swap out his gloves for special circumstances. A couple of robes spring to mind as better, but you may want to give Nalia first choice on robes - since she's your main arcane spellcaster and her starting gear is lame-o (except the ring)
Viconia is problematic - her very low strength makes it hard to equip her with good armour. I've usually given her mail of the dead to start, but I strongly recommend you complete the Slaver quest in the slums early. This will give her access to a nice, affordable +STR solution so she can have a wide choice of armour & weapons. Ankheg armour is also a decent choice for her, if you get it fairly early.
Minsc, the PC and Mazzy will all be pulling from the same pool of heavy armour, I recommend you try to keep all three of your heavies well armoured, so share the wealth as you adventure. Try to split your weapon skills so you're pulling from different weapon pools. Obviously your Paladin will want two handed swords
Good luck!

If this is your first time playing the game, then don't look at the lists and charts. Just play.
When you come across a merchant and/or loot. Inspect it and read the available classes at the bottom. Then rearrange your party as necessary. Remember one sword/armor in the inventory is better than two in the dungeon, hehe.

MAJOR SPOILER
I forget where to buy it, but mages simply must have the Robe of Vecna - very nice (but expensive).
Also, I think Mazzy needs some help in the Str department - get her a Girdle of Giant Str (or a finished Crom Faer
)
I have another question though - I'm starting an Inquisitor now - how do you think your Pally will do with Viconia in the group?
SPOILER
If you like cheese...and you import a character from BG1, when the game first starts and the screen is totally black, Pause the Game. Go to the inventory screen and dump everything on the ground. After Irenicus is done messing with you and Imoen frees you, simply pick all of your stuff back up.

For Viconia I strongly recommend obtaining the skin armour. Getting it in itself will have significant impact on your game but if you go in that direction it is quite possible that Viconia will be able to have +100% magic resistance. The armour can be made even better if you have item-upgrade installed.
Well..
If you're playing tactics, you don't need that vaguely icky (and not so good AC) armour - get Viccy the cloak from the bonus lich and she's 100% MR.
Robe of Vecna is super BUT not available in the vanilla game - you must have the bonus merchants

Yeah, But
If you are a Paladin, you DEFINITELY don't want to get the components to make the skin armor - no matter how good it is. Yes??
Knights of the Order, Unite!!!

Guilt for taking Viconia, or guilt at obtaining the ingredients for the skin armor?
The first I could understand (for a Paladin) - opposites attract and all that. The second - without giving anything away - I would take away your Paladin-hood, if I were the DM.

hmm... I seem to recall that some of the NPCs go off and try to kill Viconia... im assuming they would be Keldorn &/or Anomen. But I dunno why you would need Viconia & Anomen in the same group in the first place
As for the role-playing part, if your a pali and
*SPOILER*
You want the skin armor you need to cheat or kill the silver dragon, which is kinda against the moral code of paladins to kill good guys. Maybe if your a cavalier though....

Tact is for people not witty enough to be sarcastic
Well, it's not so much the killing of the white dragon that's morally offensive... it's the fact that you're providing a partymember with an armor made of human skin.

It's Keldorn and Valygar who MIGHT come to blows with Viccy. It's not a given. I played with Keldorn and Viccy in my party and although Keldorn wasn't happy with Vic, nothing fatal happened.
