I wish I had more time

Post by Vicsun »

I hadn't read the BG2 forums for over a year. I was drawn here by a particular event, and I've been lurking around, seldom replying because my knowledge isn't what it used to be. Now I feel strangly drawn to BG2 again. I feel the need to play. I haven't touched the game for probably two years and all the addiction symptoms had disappeared. But now I sometimes feel the CD drawing me towards it. Or a faint whisper blaming me; blaming me for abandoning it.

But I cannot. I cannot succumb, for the only free time I have is in the weekend and it's a mere couple of hours - not enough to immerse myself into Athkatla once more.

That is all.

Vicsun, you're about as pathetic as I am... =sigh= life is hard for us addicts.
BTW, you only mentioned BG2. Does that mean you've never played BG1? Or the BG2 add-on ToB?

Check out some of the mods, too, while you're at it. ;)

Argh do you people not see the source of my misery? It's not the lack of available material to play, it's the lack of time to play that material. Not only I won't be checking out mods but I probably won't even be looking let alone touching and god forbid installing BG2. Or BG1. Or ToB (which, by the way I never played for some unknown to me reason).

For the past months my gaming experience has been reduced to the occasional game of chess.

*sigh*

Oh and fable, seeing that you are in that thread I have to remind you that your time is up. A relatively long time ago actually. We, the people, need to hear your decesion on returning to SYM ;)

Well, chess is good. What program do you use--Chessmaster?

Now, the next step is to think of casting Magic Missile at your chess opponent while they're contemplating a move, so as to distract them. If that doesn't work, consider Sleep, so you can remove several pieces of theirs from play, or Confusion, which may have them moving your pieces in an effort to capture theirs. Once you've thought hard along these lines, the step to BG2 won't be very difficult to achieve, after all. :D

Some people never read the small text  However seeing that you've been ignoring that question I think I will stop bugging you about it ;)

And while I do own Chessmaster 9k I usually play on instantchess.com, just because starting up a game is so damn fast and easy.
I've never thought of casting magic missle over the internet, but it's an interesting concept - I can just see the missiles flying from the floppy drive ;) Well I signed up for a chess tournament in my school, so that might be a chance for off-line spell casting :) I'll keep you updated on how that progresses.

I'm not ignoring it, I'm still undecided. It's not a question I've just shoved to one side, believe me. :)

Can't say I'd ever heard of instructchess.com, before. It likes me to keep cookies around, though, so I don't know that I'll be using it very much. I've got Chessmaster 9 installed on my drive, but the lure of strategy and RPG titles takes preference.

Of course, I find my time because I haven't watched television in 14 years. ;)

Now funny thing is, I don't even have a TV in my family... just a tuner in the living-room PC allowing me to watch CNN while eating breakfast :) If I were to attribute my lack of time to a single source that would be the internet. I spend (read: waste) way too much time... I'm not even sure what I do online that's so time consuming.

I'm afraid the joke's lost on me... must be an inside BG2 board thing.

@minime: due to the overwhelming demands of IB and my inability to start studying before 9:30pm (don't ask) I have already forefitted most of my sleep and have cut back to a average of 3.5 - 4 hours of sleep a night. I've tried cutting back on my sleep further, but it usually results in me being a walking zombie for the better part of the day while the large doses of caffeine have little or no effect.

God, did I really seem that obsessed? I guess the whispering part kind of gave off the wrong impression. Or maybe it just gave off the right one, and I just didn't realize it. I'm off to meditate on the answer now.

Uh... well I guess the wrong place to talk about how much you are trying to resist the call of the BG Cds is in the BG forums where everyone is talking about the game
IF you really really dont want to play, try deleting all your saved games. That should put a damper on things
I did that just... 1 day, 2 hrs, 36 min ago and I already want to play. But I know I just deleted about 4-5 years worth of work in the game so it would be hard to start over. Hahaha problem sovled!

And again his name is misspelled. :D

Mayhaps you should start using a different name Vicsun...everyone has problems with it :p

Let me just say this, Vicsun: I completely understand what you're saying. I've had little time for many games myself. Though to tell the truth, I've actually lost quite a bit of interest in the Baldur's Gate series, and have almost thrown myself into my college work (and my job), with most of my true interest actually going into that. Sound interesting?
