Emmeric's attacks

Is Emmeric's extra attack a class specific? (Not the Cleave Feat.)

Example: (One round)

Attack (miss) + Attack (Cleave) = another Attack.

I understand his (Cleave) Attack leading to the chance to Attack again, but where does he get the first (miss) Attack from?



As soon as I got him (Level 5 Fighter), I picked Barbarian for his next level up. He is still at this level at the moment (Level 5 Fighter, Level 1 Barbarian)
