would like to get some tips...

Post by Bentz »

i'm just in the begining of the game, starting the peninsila district as a sorcerer. for now, i have two simple questions, but in time i promise you i shall ask for more help. be prepared.]

first of all, can i equip my hencmen? besides healing him with potions, can i equip him with a new sword or shield? a better armor? i read the manual but didn't came up with an answer.

second of all, is it possible to finish the game without hencmen, just playing solo? so far i've tried the peninsula quest, it is difficult
as a low level sorcerer, and i wondering whether i should get a hencman.

thanks!

Regarding equipping your henchman.

In the original NwN that is not possible unless you install a hak (player created addition) to the game.

It is possible in SoU and HotU expansion, though.

Regarding soloing.
It is very possible to solo through the game, some areas might be hard when you are low level, but with the right stuff - it is possible and not that hard.

i haven't tried playing the peninsula ques since last night, but i didn't had success as solo. guess i'll get an hencman, unless you have some pointers for me.

btw, does the hencmen gains XP points?

thanks.

You could try summoning in order to distract the prisoners while you pepper them with arrows and magic from a distance...
Though I have not tried playing a sorc solo in NWN, so this is just a stab in the dark. It worked in SoA, but of course that is a different game ;)

Yes, Henchmen level when you do and are always one level below that of your character.

I pretty much soloed my sorcerer through NwN.
The trick is to aquire (when you can afford them) the greater belts of <insert name here> - there are 3 of them, and changing around bewteen them, you can make yourself pretty much invulnerable to physical harm. They all absorb 20 points of damage, and either of piercing (didn't use this much, better to just use spells), blunt and slash.

Untill you can afford these items, you need to rely heavily on summons (with their cheesy long duration :D ) and I recommdend using your familiar often - for instance the panter is a good combat one.

Traps you just use summons to set off if you can't avoid them - or if you feel confident you have enough hit points, just set them off (good to get some regeneration ability fast). Doors and Chests - well most of them can be blown to pieces with spells- except for a select few where most (not all) of them requiere a key.

Then when you start to become powerfull - use Stoneskin/Greater Stoneskin combined with Ethernal Visage spells or/and other defensive spells combined with the belts - and you can practically walk through anything throwing spells at your enemies :)

i see.
hmmm.... should i ask you where can i get those belts and how much they cost or should i discover them myself?

as for the the hencman, can i equip them? i haven't found an answer in the manual.

and as for the familiar. i already thought of summoning the panter. it's seems like a nice beast. but, i remember from SoA and i think it was written in the manual, when i lose the familiar, it's killed, i lose HP, am i not?

well, i appreciate your time.
i realize that those queations aren't the... brightest one's?

anyway,
thanks.

The belts are to be found at several merchants (but I think you have to wait until Chapter 2).

You can't equip henchmen in the original NWN campaign (they change their equipment from +1 through +2 to +3 as they level up; can't remember at which levels though) but you can in SoU and HotU.

When your familiar dies, you lose 1d6 hitpoints (which doesn't really matter in the long run except the very beginning of the game).

gem of recall teleports you back to the place you have to report too aswell in the chapter. So yes, in chapter 1 that are the Halls of Justice. But in other chapter there are other places you are teleported to

It is possible to manage your henchman inventory in the original NWN campaign by downloading and installing a mod. Follow this link to download the Henchman Inventory and Battle ai mod.
