Setup Help!!! Tech please!!!

Post by I0xPoOTiSx0I »

Ok long night last night
First I went to install the full install of BG:2, my hard drive was full so I cancelled the install and started to install the Recommended size, in the middle i was afraid my hard-drive would get filled again, so I cancelled the installation, went to the C:\Program Files\Black Isle\ and deleted the folder. I cleared out my hard-drive then went to Add/Remove Programs and removed it from there, but it didn't leave the list...(I didn't realize that until checking the second time) So I went to install it and it said I was ready to play... I knew that wasn't true I went into my registry deleted the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\BioWare\Baldur's Gate II etc.. whatever it is. Then didn't do anything so I searched again for it and I found an installation log or something, deleted all the stuff inside of the folder... I then went to the CD began to install the game, it went through Disc1-Disc2-Disc3-Disc4, here's the problem, it went back to disc one, it made small abnormal sound in the Rom drive... then When I said I had it in... it kept giving me the same prompt (Please insert Disc1) So then I went and copied all of the files from disc1 to a folder on my desktop... the only that wouldn't copy was CD1.ifo, saying access was denied... so I figured this was the problem. A friend gave me his, but when I went to put anywhere on my hard-drive it would just disappear, so i downloaded it as CD.ifo, put it in the directory on my desktop, i kept trying to change it to CD1.ifo but it said access was denied...(and once when i tried installing, it asked for a disc5!!!) Someone please help me ICQ me: 54930069, AIM me: I0xPoOTiSx0I, or e-mail ShaggyHobo86@cs.com, if you can't or don't feel like getting ahold of me by those means just reply to this message thanks...

I hope you are trained in the use of the Registry files... They are dynamic (meaning that as soon as you change them, they take effect [no Apply, OK].
Since you deleted the files yourself instead of using Add/Remove Programs, the name will stay on the list for good (although I believe that Power Toys [WIN98+] allows you to errase the name from the list).

I would try to change everything back to the way it was when you first installed the game. Then try to reinstall the game.

It is best if you do a full install as it will speed to game up. I had to uninstall 3 large programs in order to fit the 2.5?GB onto my Hard Drive.

Hope this helps
