Malchor Harpell

I'm fighting the Black Dragon in Suldanesslar and this mage guy called Malchor Harpell turns up. I try to speak to him but all it says is: Malchor Harpell has nothing to say to you. I tried killing him but he takes no damge. So who the hell is MALCHOR HARPELL?

he's one of the game's cheese characters.

if you've encountered arkanis gath before, then he follows the same sort of lines. arkanis gath appears if you kill any shadow thief you're not supposed to before chapter 2. he has insta-kill stuff. its bioware's aim to keep you honest (and unstupid e.g. gating a demon into a thief area)

malchor appears if you kill drizzt and his party to get their stash. normally he fights you, but on some (i think unpatched or modded) games he'll just follow you from area to area.

weimar's ease of use mod takes him away, which makes sense really because, even though drizzt's items were the most powerful of bg1, by the time you get them in bg2 they're nigh on useless (unless you have a scimitar using character, then twinkle comes in handy)

Well I never killed Drizzt. and he never died in Bohdi's tomb/
