uninstallation error

Post by Koveras »

recently, ive decided to play bg1 again, but with bg1 tutu. couple days ago, my computer got a virus or something, and i had to reinstall windows. then i reinstalled bg1 and bg2, however the bg1 tutu program did not work somehow so ive decided to completely reinstall everything by deleting the most of the folders except save and few others.

for some reason i cannot completely uninstall bg2. i cant remove it from the add/remove program place, and ive even deleted some registry info, but i still cannot completely remove it. now i cant install or play bg2, let alone bg1 tutu.

Any ideas?

I think that's your problem. There's probably some stuff left in your registry from one of the two installs. I hardly ever touch my registry though, so I'm not one to give advice on that.

ps. i dont trust you, and i'm not accepting that ring

does anyone know where exactly in the registry can i find this stuff? my concern is primarily to just be able to install the game, all the mods and stuff i can deal with later.

I'd just suggest doing a search of "baldur."

hmm...@fable, ive just tried doing the search and all i found were save game files, an ini file, the bg1 exe, and couple of pf(?) files...not sure what to make of this.

btw should i uninstall bg1 for now to make things simpler?

Did you search for "Baldur" in the registry as well?

@Fer'or, i followed your advice and i have searched the registry and deleted everything that have anything to do with the name bg2. this eliminated the problem of the bg2 item not being removable from the add/remove programs place. but i still cannot install bg2 because the cd or whatever still thinks that i have bg2 installed and therefore doesnt give me the option to install.

is there a way to get around this?

2 late

I know your problem is solved but i just thought i'd add my solution in case anyone else wants it. I tried deleting all the registry stuff by searching for baldurs, amn, bioware etc and deleting everything but it still didnt work. I found that if you go into one of the SoA cds (forget which 1) and run setup.exe you can actually install it even though your comp thinks its already on, I wish I'd found this thread earlier, I had so much F**kin trouble trying to reinstall it GRAHHGGH!!!

- sorry
