The cloakwood areas aren't accessible until chapter 4. I don't know which chapter you are in, but if you want to know how to get to chapter 4:

A bit more *spoilers*
I would suggest that you walk all over the entire world map, doing all the quests and picking up as much XP as possible before you start on Cloakwood. There's so many cool upgrades and so much neat stuff to pick up. BE WARNED, though: If you're playing with the expansion pack, avoid the two big quests there, Durlag's Tower and Werewolf Island, until after Cloakwood. They are pretty hairy.

I think you have to depart from the Friendly Arm map in order to access the first Cloakwood map. It has been awhile, though, so I am not 100% sure.
That's right, to enter the Cloakwood proper (once in chapter 4), just leave the left side of the Friendly Arm Inn map. Another entrance could be the top side of the "Stone Circle", to the right of Candlekeep (I never tried this, it should work according to the world map).

yes, both entrances work perfectly once you are in the 4th chapter. i did it only a couple of hours ago. i am getting the most out of the game so i am trying a lot of the possibilities.

About roaming aroung the world map, UNDER ALL COSTS AVOID AR3500. It contains some very nasty Basilisks that caught me unprepared and turned all my party to stone.

You could protect yourself from being turned to stone by potions or spells. Give the potion, or cast the spell, on one of your melee characters and send him to the basilisk(s). The rest can use missile weapons and bows to fire away while the basilisk wastes his pertificationattacks on the protected party member.Originally posted by ElesarTheStrong

Those basilisks give a lot of xp, which means a low level party levels up real fast.

my advice for basilisks is to get the ghoul (somewhere on the map) who offers to be your friend. You just send him in in front of you and he cant be petrified. Basilisks dont change their focus once they start thinking so its fine!

Spoiler: (highlight to read)
The goul is located just NE from where you start. If you run quickly, and don't worry about the loot until after, you can kill all the basiliks before the goul dire charm timelimit. I usually control him seperate from my party, keeping him in the front of my view. He then takes all the stonegazes and I can pummel the enemies with ranged weapons. Remember to go around the perimieter of the map, avoiding the middle. Don't waste the goul on the gnolls or the bandit party, he's too valuable against the greater B's at the south end of the map.
