heavy to medium and vice versa?

Post by robot flux »

I've noticed something rather VERY annoying. My character has Heavy armor as major and medium is minor. Now, I had the Dragon Helm and Shield which I bought from Balmora. After playing, I noticed that suddenly both of them turned into Medium and the AC dropped about 30 each. Well I thought that some of the lair creatures (of the night ;) ) somehow turned them into medium.

Oh well, **** happens I thought. Then later I taunted one of the Vivec's guards. I killed one and took his armor. All of them were heavy and AC about 80 (which was good at that point :p ). But what do you know, they turned medium as well! Now that got me wonder  ... I went back to my home (Ravir's actually) and put the armor pieces on a shelf.

NOW I went back to see them (= to brag my friend) and ta-daa!, they were heavy again?

Is this a glitch or what? Is this happening due to the fact that the morrowind isn't updated? I know I should update it but the update just crashes the game (which is another problem that needs solving, any help would be HIGHLY appreciated).

So, why does heavy-->medium-->heavy again???

Can't help you, sorry. However I've read from somewhere that ebony armor is medium, but in my game it is always heavy. Perhaps this is related to the anomaly you've found?

Mom said not to talk to strangers. I asked her what that meant and she said "anyone who looks stranger than your relatives." Except Uncle Sue. I guess. - A boy in Baldur's Gate

changing armour

I haven't played this enough to give you a certain answer, but in my game, like the various bonemold armours and the dreugh, the dragonscale was medium armour, and if the guy you killed in Vivec was an Ordinator, then their armour too is medium. I don't know why it registered at first as heavy. Perhaps something got corrupted in your character settings. I do have a vague recollection as to having seen this problem mentioned before, but you will need someone who has been immersed in this game longer than me to tell you more.

Now if you get something like daedric or ebony armour (heavy) change on you, that would be weird.

ps. (added later) Below is a bit from Shakti's guide about this (you can find Shakti's site in the 'yellow pages' above):

Q: Why is my Indoril or Dreugh armor changing from medium to heavy or vice-versa?
These two armor types are supposed to be medium armor and are listed in the Construction Set and I think the strategy guide (can somebody confirm?) as such. However for some people Indoril and/or Dreugh begin as heavy armor in the game. There is a bug within the game that will sometimes cause these two armor types to change from medium to heavy or vice-versa. I've heard reports that quitting out of the game and restarting it made the armor revert back to what it started as originally in the game. I've personally had success using that method, but it may not work for everyone.
The head of the guild asked a new prospect to descibe himself in as few words as possible. The prospect made it in one, "Concise".
