BG2 with a small party

Post by Sourced »

I've just started a new game of BG2 with my "old" character. I'm thinking about keeping my party small. I currenty have Viconia (cause she is both cool adn hot) and a wizard I made (mostly to get other casters).

Are there any fights have to watch out for? I know the litch is gonna be a b_tch Image

Anybody else started the game with a small party lemme know.

Most people either play with six characters or with a single one, it seems to be the most efficient experiance to usibility ratio. A single character works quite well, though some of the parts are tedious... This ain't no Diablo.

My next restart is going to have my main character (Elven Archer), Keldorn and Viconia, just to see their NPC reactions :-) I hope it works well, but since it has all of the parts of a successful party (a couple of fighters and backup) I think it should work. It's all about the right balance.

Maybe I'll pick up Keldorn as well, he seems to be a good fighter (makes a party of 4).

Viconia can also pack quite a punch, with Crom Faeyr she has a THAC0 of -2 and and AC of -12. I see no problem with her as a front-line unit (which can, if needed, also lend some support magic).

I've heard about some bad experiences with having BOTH Keldorn and Viconia in your party. They were bickering with one another, and in the end both left the party, only to start fighting with eachother.

I didn't yet experience this, but I haven't yet met Keldorn in my current game.

Well, I can ditch Keldorn when that happens. It's not like I _need_ him Image

Keldorn needs better dexterity, could just find the Guantlets i suppose Image

I started a multiplayer with two custom players, a Fighter/Thief and a Cleric/Mage, they kicked arse Image

Damn, I forgot the thief.
I need a thief 4 trapfinding, who should I take?

(guess that means I'll ditch Keldorn anyway)

Taysir of course! Who else?? Image

Yoshimo is best, I guess, being the only 'full' thief in the game. But he'll betray you somewhere in the Asylum, where you can get Imoen. I don't know what her stats will be when you get her there, though.

You don't neccessarily need a thief, you can Bust most things open, but you don't gain any experience that way Image

I thought trapfinding was the issue here, not lock-picking Image

You just don't wanna search all over the place with your priest, now would you? Image

Image Of course, you can't possibly know what this is all about. I'll explain.

Taysir is the name of my PnP character, and he's a Rogue. I've had him for several years now, and I have the habit of naming Rogues in computergames after him. So for BG, I also created a fighter/thief, and named him Taysir.

Since Source is also in my PnP RPG group, he knows this character all too well. He also knows I love to hack away at computer files (and I really like doing that - figuring out how people programmed their data, and see how far I can manipulate it; especially if the game is interesting enough to do it), so he expects me to give him a hacked character. But I won't. Image

Depends on how well hacked it was, if it was brilliant then you could try putting it up for auction like Ultima characters Image

Reminds me of Diablo II characters being sold on eBay. I'm not joking - there were items and characters for sale for well over 1000 dollars! Those guys were absolutely insane, especially since you could easily hack them, and create them.

Let's get something straight, I do not want a hacked character, I want the caracter who was with you when you (errm... Kaysa) finished BG2. I just put the x999 in there because I have no idea how much backstab damage Taysir can do.

BTW Is getting a copied character cheating?

Don't worry, he isn't hacked, and his multiplyer is 6x IIRC. But I guess you've already put him into your party.

To answer your question: yes and no. Technically speaking, it is a valid character, so this is not cheating. On the other hand, you got a VERY POWERFUL ( Image) person for VERY LITTLE effort. This could be considered cheating.

Bwah, I don't care - just treat him right (exquisite meals, lots of babes and 95% of the treasure money your party finds will do Image)
