leveling up problems

Post by blahblah »

have just started in BG1
have started originally as a fighter and then said I'd try a mage tok=ok a fairly direct route down to nashkel after picking up jaheira and khalid have a party of 6 both times as the fihgter I was at last time I checked just shy of 4000xp but I had not been given the option to level up once the only one who has leveled up in my party is jaheira, she leveled up after only accruing 200 xp or so in the party. That is just cheeky. some of the others were 2000+ some 3000+ but no one but her leveled so I started over as the mage and am noticing the same thing minsc is at 1500 or so and still no leveling. the mage is a vanilla mage and currently at 800xp or so

I've played neverwinter nights and icewind dale 2, I know going at it backwards and all that but shouldn't I have leveled by now? Isn't it eh whole 1000xp, 3000xp

I have gotten the patch today and will install this tonight but I cn't see them having a bug of this kind and not seeing it it's essential to gameplay and at the start of things

Any suggestions cos I'd really like to go through this before BG2 picked em both up online and have read quite a few forums so I know that doing it out of order would make me miss out on loads but this is a bit ridiculous.

I'm checking the xp in the information window of teh character profile where all the stats and the character portrait large one are displayed

Anyways any help of the yeah had that before and here's how to fix it or the you idiot it happens at this much xp or after completing these quests or whatever would be much appreciated

I'm not sure I understood all of your post, but if you check your pc or npc's stats (at the screen you described), it should also say how many points that character needs to level up. For instance, Minsc has 1500 xp, but IIRC he needs 2500 to get to level 2. It should say so right under his current xp.

Mage XP

If you will refer to your BG manual, page 139, there you will find the experience tables for all classes. If for some reason you do not have a manual, the Mage progression is: lvl 2-2500 XP, lvl 3-5000, lvl 4-10,000, lvl 5-20,000, lvl 6-40,000, lvl 7-60,000, lvl 8-90,000, lvl 9-135,000. I believe that in BG1 89,000 is the XP cap, ie, 1,000 points below 8th level unless you have TOSC expansion installed, then it's 161,000 XP or something like that.

yeah so it was the latter option of literally RTFM :)

thanks lads was a bit frantic at this stage was running win2k before and had to format the drive and partition and then instann win 98 on 10Gb and then win2k on the rest took me a week on and off to sort out the initial mistakes. All that to run baldur's gate, so was in no state to stop think clearly and sort out the poblem logically :o .
