awesome hit
i just saw an about 3000000 XP point sarevok wielding the silver sword do a 46 damage and then another 200 due to a deathbringer assault on an elite orog (not much left of) adding up for a grand total of 246 in one hitD ... is this natural? anyone else experienced an overpowered hit before?:

I have had Savarok do the 200hp hit thing on several occasions now. Seems a unbalanced relative to the rest of the party (my F has yet to achieve a 200 hp hit ). Don't know why he can do this (maybe a critical hit with deathbringer ability active too? to give a 4-5X to hp damage).

Deathbringer Assault is Sarevok's unique ability. It's sort of what's-left-of-your-goodhood-if-you-follow-your-powerfull-sibling sort of thing. If sarevok had beeten you at the end of BG1, you would get it . Your char will not get it in ToB, but then again, he would hardly seem under-powered by the time you meet Sarevok
I'm not 100 sure about this but I think that the deathbringer assault is Sarevoks Critical Hit, only that instead of doubling the dmg it adds 200 to it...... I can't confirm this though....

Unfortunately, I don't have the game installed right now, so I can't look at the game resources to see exactly how the Deathbringer Assault works. But I did take a look at it a couple of years ago, and here's what I remember. Deathbringer Assault is not limited to critical hits; it is a damage modifier that applies to EVERY hit, with about a 1% chance of taking effect on any successful hit. In other words, in the long run, one out of every one hundred hits (critical or not) will do an extra 200 points of damage. (I might be wrong about the percentage, but it's a very small number, which helps to preserve balance.) Just to clarify, it doesn't add 200 points to the damage roll; it basically inflicts an extra attack that does exactly 200 points of damage, accompanied by a special animation and a pop-up text that says, "Die!" or something like that.
But now that I think about it, I'm having doubts about whether it only applies to critical hits. Maybe it works like this: on a critical hit, there's something like a 5% chance of inflicting a Deathbringer Assault. Again, the chance is small, and it doesn't happen on every critical hit.
I suppose it's a little bit cheesy. But if you read Sarevok's bio, you'll see the rationale: he's a special kind of fighter called a "Deathbringer" who specializes in intimidation tactics, brutal fighting techniques, and massive, devastating attacks that can kill even the toughest opponents in only one blow. Given that context, I don't think that Deathbringer Assault is limited to Bhaalspawn; I presume that other "Deathbringers" have that special ability as well. Sarevok did have other special powers as a result of his lineage; however, he lost most of them when he died. For example, in BG1, he was equipped with a sword and armor that could help him channel his godly powers, which among other things gave him extra strength, hit points, and magic resistance.
Some creatures are immune to Deathbringer Assault. The damage from Deathbringer Assault is also subject to damage resistance; for example, if Imix is hit with Deathbringer Assault, he only takes 100 points of damage instead of 200 points.
If you use a character editor like Shadowkeeper, you can give your own characters Deathbringer Assault. I've never done that myself because my characters aren't Deathbringers, but you are welcome to please yourself. You can also give your characters immunity against it, although I'm not sure what point there would be. Immunity against Time Stop, for example, would be much more useful.

yeah i must admit it is quite rare, one in every 12 characters sarevok fights get killed by his deathbringer hit... i remember reading some more about it in the shadows of amn forum can not remeber which thread tho ... but it is well worth the power you see a fire like symbol go around the character ... and sarevok gives his line... fun to watch tho ...

Sarevok doesn't only get the chance to do extra damage in combat. Deatbringers can also cause panic to their opponents when they hit them. So Deathbringers are VERY cool and VERY good.
My Sarevok killed an "uninjured" Balthazar with ONE BLOW!! He got both a critical and a deathbringer assault. I think he did like 260 damage. DAMN!

hmmm should be worth trying ... maybe shadowkeeper will be aduaquate for it .. any character in the game with more than a 1000 hitpoints ? (talking about overpowering a character ).. but if you would add deathbringer assault to a thief would it also count in the multiplying damage of a backstab? or just the hit itself plus 200? would be nice anyway tho if you get a hit of 20 x 5 + 200 still equals 300.. but has anyone actually tried it before?

I'm actually playing an evil fighter (demon knight kit) called Uther Deathbringer, so adding the deathbringer assault to him would be in tone, what should you do to add it with SK?
I'haven't see any deathbringer assault under the innate abilities.
Thanks
Using Shadowkeeper, the easiest way to give your own character the Deathbringer Assault (or any other special ability) is to look at a character who already has that ability and just copy and paste it. In other words, you can add Sarevok to your party and look at his Innate Abilities, and copy the one for Deathbringer Assault to your own character's Innate Abilities. As far as I know, that's all you need to do. I don't think it is listed as a "spell" under Innate Abilities, but there is probably a spell-like ability associated with it with a name like "SPCL915" or something along those lines. If you knew all of the parameters (I don't know why anyone would), you could add the Innate Ability yourself by doing a little bit of editing, but I always just copy and paste.
Good luck!

You're right--it's under "Affects", not Innate Abilities. I haven't used Shadowkeeper in a while and I got confused. Sorry.Originally posted by lompo
I'll have to check with more attention, because I don't remember any innate ability under Sarevok, while maybe something like that was under the affects (but I don't know if that is of relevance).
By the way, if you look at Sarevok's effects, you'll see a code in there for Deathbringer Assault. As I said before, it looks like SPCL915 or something like that. (I don't know exactly what the code is; I'm just trying to describe what it might look like.) Once you know that code, you can use another resource viewer like Infinity Explorer to examine the effect in more detail. For example, you might be able to determine what percentage of the time it takes effect.
Also, I'm not sure, but my guess would be that Deathbringer Assault is not quintupled by a backstab attack; you'd have the backstab damage (easily over 100 points in TOB) plus the 200 extra points for a mighty blow that could seriously hurt (if not kill) any creature not immune to it. The terrasque (which can be found in a hidden part of the game) has over 1000 hit points, but it's immune to backstab, of course, just like dragons and other large creatures.
the terrasque?!?
@ VonDondu:
Really? Could you post a spoiler of how to find the hidden part? I'd LOVE to face this beast, I didn't know it existed in BGII... I mean it'd be the stuff of legends (right Boo?). As a kids playing PnP, we'd daydream about what sorts of parties could face it, and a ToB party could certainly do it.
