Dark Side is too hard

Post by Gopher »

Sorry but sticking to the light side of the force is supposed to behard, going dark should be easy. Just letting your anger take over is enough to become Darth Vader ... but in the game the only way to become a dark knight is to become a total tit!

Im sorry but I want to play the impetuous headstrong type who becomes seduced by the power of the dark side. But I didnt want to go round robbing single mothers, calling people rude names and picking fights with people over 5 credits.

Dark side should just happen IF and when you take dark powers. You are seduced by the power. Perhaps you honestly mean to use the power for good yada yada yada. But some street thug who blackmails doctors for 50 credits should NOT have even made it into the jedi academy! I mean how dumb are the masters there anyway!?

I play two games, one light guardian male and one dark consul female. The guardian is too righteous and the consul is just a mindless thug :(

True... I'm fully on your side, but the games too short for that =(
If there's something more important than my ego. I want it caught and shot now.

I justified it by thinking of the pre-jedi bit as my bad youth. Now im a trained jedi trying to suppress my rage and bitterness etc etc. Now I just pick fights with anyone who gives attitude, that seems enough. Oh and I lie like mad to the council :)

But I dont have to slap small babies any more. :)

The game programming really favors a total committment to one "side" of the force or another. Bonuses and penalties occur on your force power usage, depending on your light/dark affiliation.

Your issue over credits is spot on legitimate. Nothing like the former Dark Lord of the Sith gunning down unarmed drunks, or killing some fugutive in an apartment after shaking him down for 50 credits, then collecting the bounty on him.

Try to think of your actions in terms of furthering your cruelty - like when Darth Vader says in Empire Strikes Back "apology accepted Captain Needa." Also, a darksider has that Sith Code to live up to, not true? On that basis, the force is there to serve YOU, and your design is to kick the usurper out. You gotta break a few eggs to make omeletes, yada yada yada.

(I'm finding it sort of pathetic how eagerly the Light Side NPCs join in to help you kill all the people you torment and kill. Shouldn't Bastila and Carth at least stand aside and not fight while you kill those drunks on Taris?)
Against boredome,
Even the Gods themselves
Struggle in vain.

Its just too hard. I give up. I keep getting light side points for doing things that are just basically polite. Its like unless I extort some schmucj for 50 credits (when I have 60,000 already) Im a good guy..... forget the fact that I only really did the quest to further my own power and the thrill of choking the life out of the presumptious pathetic dark jedi that think they can match my power! But im nice cos i dont ask for a tip after doing it :(

Yeah, well, that's what you get when someone thinks that D&D is a good base for Star Wars role-playing... Good barbarian heros get away with murder (literally), while Jedi should not. I do not think that picking dark side power should toss you to the dark side, but I do agree that it is way too hard to become evil. It seems that the game-designers were so worried about youngsters getting evil characters (which would seem bad to parents) that you get away with waaay too much. It kills a lot of the points of the struggle against the dark side, methinks. Being "evil" should be easier than having to do everything dead wrong. I'm not overly fond of this game, I must admit.

Actually they at least have a sense of humour about it. Later on on Koriban someone complains that dark side followers these days just seem to be mindless thugs rather than the true evil men of the past :)

That is acutally one of my problems with the game. It's the Jar-jar-effect. You can't fear and laugh at the same time. I prefer fear to laughs when it comes to matters of the Sith. But perchance I am a stiff boring guy who takes the whole Star Wars-saga too seriously... ;)

Listen, no game is going to be perfect. I've almost completed my fourth time through and I've found the Dark Side no more difficult than the Light. In fact the Dark Side has some pretty cool force powers.

Its not techinically more difficult to play DS but its harder to judge. Its so easy to accidentaly get LS points when you didnt want to. You sometimes have to act dishonourably... which is not the same as evil. You always have to ask for a reward for doing a task just in case doing it for free is 'good'. Im like the richest evil sob this side of the galazy but i have to insist on a few credits tip for egging the wookies into killing each other for fun. And even then I got LS points!!

Getting LSM was easy as pie. You just try not to be a tit. Its positively western: pay some charity credits and you get to heaven regardless if your deep intent is global domination. Its lost the whole star wars eastern philosophy thing imho.

I see your point and getting used to the Dark Side took some doing, but after a while I just went with being a total schmuck and all was well. :D

Dont get me wrong, its still a superb game. Especially as dark side :) Jolee is kinda funny if you are light side, but Canderous and the Psycho android are without doubt the best duo to go adventuring with if you are bad to the bone! TK-47 has all the best lines and noone is whining at you when you use your force persaude.
