Necessary Enchanting and Intelligence stats

Post by dragon wench »

Because I am exceedingly stubborn I want to be able to do my own enchanting, particularly with CE. Funds are not the issue, as we all know in Morrowind gold is hardly a scarce resource. I just want to be able to do it myself, dammit! :D

At present my intelligence is at 99 and my enchant is at 55. A friend told me that even with both at 100 there is still a high failure rate. Increasing my enchant skill won't be a problem. I have discovered the cheesy method of creating a soul trap on strike sword in combination with Azura's Star: trap soul, recharge sword, rince and repeat! :D (I can't be bothered with the mad master trainer at Indoranyon  )

So I am wondering, just how high your intelligence needs to be to enchant items with a high rate of success. At present I am considering the following:
*brewing my own fortify intelligence potions
*If possible, enchanting an item with fortify intelligence
*If possible, enchanting an item that fortifies enchant

In order to access a ready supply of constant effect ingredients I am also planning to obtain a 'summon golden saint' spell and enchanting an amulet or something with it. :p
*sigh* Me thinks I have succumbed to the abundant cheese opportunities in the game :o

There are many things I want to do with CE, lol!
Especially, though, I want to enchant a set of clothing with spells like bound armor, shield, sanctuary, magic resistance/reflect etc. etc. so I can go almost weightless (just because), I also want to enchant an item with constant effect water breathing. I had a ring of flight created the other night, what fun! :D

I've never tested this thoroughly, but with Enchant at 100, you have a decent success rate for non-CE items up to 30 enchant points and for CE items up to 10 enchant points. I've no real idea exactly how much boosting intelligence helps your success rate, but you do need to boost that AND luck by at least several hundred points to notice a difference. Obviously, the only way you can do this is with potions. As long as you have a large stack of ingredients to work with, you need not train up your alchemy skill.

Required ingredients:

Fortify Intelligence - netch leather and ash yams

Fortify Luck - cork bulb and corpus weepings

Cork bulb is sold at the Mages' Guild in Sadrith Mora, the rest are sold at the Imperial Shrine in Sadrith Mora

I personally thought the failure rate for making CE items was a little too high, so I edited the corresponding global in one of my plug-ins.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Thanks! :)

*eek* Looks like I have my work cut out for me :D The alchemy part should be okay since the cottage mod I downloaded contains a full grandmaster potion-making kit, along with a well-stocked, regenerating supply chest

I suppose this is technically cheating... but I have enough money to buy all of that stuff, and I have collected loads of ingredients anyway (despite the supply chest), so I may as well make use of it ;)

The piece below is lifted from 'Shakti's site on Morrowind. There is lots of useful advice on it.

http://home.austin.rr.com/shakti/morrowind/mwguide.htm

At Enchant 30, Intel 60, Luck 40 - I could not make a level 15 item at all in over 10 attempts, but I could make a level 7 item in about 2 attempts.

At Enchant 42, Intel 64, Luck 40 - I could start making level 15 items if I really really tried a lot. I could make level 10 items with only a few failures.

At Enchant 100, Intel 100, Luck 50 - I could make up to level 60 items successfully most of the time, with very few failures. Level 75 items I could do with only about 4-5 failures. Level 90 items would fail most of the time--it was very rare to succeed on a 90 item. Level 120 items? Forget it; no way José.

At Enchant 100, Intel 1000, Luck 50 - I could make level 90 items with not too many failures. Level 120 items were still impossible to make.

At Enchant 100, Intel 1000, Luck 500 - I could make level 110 items with not too many failures. Level 90 items almost never failed.

One player reported that at Enchant 100, Intell 1800, Luck 500, and Personality 400 he never failed to enchant anything. He swears that boosting Personality does noticeably improve the failure rate, but nobody can figure out why that would be.
The head of the guild asked a new prospect to descibe himself in as few words as possible. The prospect made it in one, "Concise".

@Kingslake, cheers! That guide is really useful, best stuff I've seen on the science of enchanting.

lol! For somebody who apparently is trying to dissuade powergaming, he provides a very detailed description of just how to go about it.....
